Sucked in again - should I even bother to post this...

I can't believe I still do it. Every frickin time! Why do I do this to myself?

I still love this band as much now as when I first heard Alive on the radio all those years ago. Because of this I come on here every day, as many times as I can, just to see if there's any more news about the band's plans - extra dates, pre-sales etc. I am genuinely really fuckin excited about the new album, the London shows, the year ahead. Each time I see a new post with some new information, naive or not, I actually think that most people on here will share my excitement. It's Pearl fuckin Jam people! Come on! What do I find instead? Every thread I read has got someone pissing and moaning about something.

PJ on Conan - crappy sound and *gasp* Ed's gained a few pounds!
New album - too short
New song titles - not cool enough
PJ at Target - sellouts!
New PJ tour - waaaaah, not in my street!

I know that the band are not at my sole command. I don't expect anything special from them just for me. I appreciate what they do and I'm thankful that they've been a part of my life for this long. There are some songs I don't like on some of the albums but I can live with that. They don't play the UK often enough but hey it's a big world and there are a lot of places to play. I have even come to terms with the fact that, even though I live in London, I may not get to see the SBE show. I am happy for you guys that got your tickets today, I hope you have an awesome time at the shows and the new songs kick ass.

The fact of the matter is that the 10C forums are now dominated by people complaining about shit that really isn't the end of the world. I know that there will always be people that complain, that's life. It would just be nice to see a few more positive posts on here once in a while. Lighten up people please!

I suppose the ironic thing is that this post will either be completely ignored or people will complain on it. C'est la vie...

i wonder the same thing many times. think about it. new album and tour on the horizon. one would think that it would be truly DIFFICULT for a pj diehard fan to find negativity in that, yet it happens alllll the time. oh well. i normally just ignore those threads unless its something that is worthy of a respectful debate.

I've been a PJ fan for a very long time and only recently joined in the posting community and have been amazed at the amont of negativity. It's sad really.

Be nice to some of these folks. I don't think anyone who mentions that PJ is horrible at announcing tours, or tours sporadically, should be called a complainer. Great, a new album. Psyched! Now for a tour, some places haven't seen the band come within a state or two of them within 6 years, and are a bit peeved that 2009 will be a washout again. I have no problem with people complaining about how PJ is doing their tours (most of the issue I think is with how they announce them one show at a time). That said, I'll be going to 7 shows and loving all of it!

Enough complaining about the ticket sales though. There is a limited bunch. We've all been hosed a couple of times with tickets. Need to get over it.

I agree. Even on days when there really isn't anything going on it seems like the negative posts run 4 to 1 over anything positive. I can understand a post saying that you're bummed that you got shut out, but to just complain and complain endlessly isn't helping anyone.

I got shut out of the EV philly shows because the lottery wasn't in my favor that day... try to find a single post of mine where I SCREAMED and complained. You won't because I knew that there was a chance that I wouldn't be picked. Luckily, a week later my name DID get picked for the first night and I was able to get 10c tickets but the day we found out the results of the lottery I was really bummed.

Today I'm extremely excited that I got both Philly shows but I'm afraid that I'll get flamed for gasp! being happy!!!! Am I bummed for those that didn't get tickets? Yes, because I do know how much it sucks but let the ones who did get in be happy without all of the guilt hoisted upon them.

I still get as giddy now when I hear new PJ songs as I did when I was thirteen, hanging out at the Pizza Hut down the street with my friends and popping quarter after quarter in the jukebox to hear Alive and Jeremy over... and over... and over. I didn't understand a thing Ed was saying the first few times, but I couldn't stopping playing the songs. I love hearing that others are as excited as I am for the new album, and I think I will be this excited when they put out albums in their 80s. I get that we all feel like we have a stake in the band -- hell, I was sure they had to be reading my journal when I was younger, since they seemed to put words and melody to my teenage confusion, and then later to my adult activism and contemplation -- but I'm not sure I want to spend my time being so critical of the band even if they do feel like family. Makes me feel like a gossipy old biddy. I'd rather savor the wonder of their musical constructions than nitpick their song titles before I've heard the songs. So, rock on OP, and I hope you have as much fun trying to figure out your favorite song on the new album as I will.

i WILL complain.....that your post didn't include enough reasons why you love pearl jam. are you sure you deserve tickets yourself? haha, just kidding.

much truth to your post. one of the reasons i stopped coming to this board until recently because of the new album.

Things generally have a way of working out, use the board to hook up and find tickets thru other members, show up at the shows if local, you should get in.

I completely accept that there will be people that need to vent or complain about stuff. As I was re-reading my original post I realised that it was also a kind of complaint too in a way - complaining about all of the complaining! It would just be nice to see some more positive vibes out there to balance it out.

And as far as tickets go, I'm from Wales so I totally get why people are bummed when they don't get tickets. Getting shut out is one thing, PJ have played in my country once (upon a time, 06/06/00) but hey it gives me an excuse to fly!

So, raise a glass to the boys, listen to Backspacer before judging it, rock your asses off at the shows and tip your hats to the future.

    Peace.

I agree with the op. We can't be happy all the time, but it doesn't mean we need to make everyone else unhappy too. I'm ashamed to say we are in a generation of entitlement that cries when things don't go their way. I have missed out on plenty of pre-sales, never got one Eddie show, but I didn't complain about it, I went out and got tickets another way.

As for the new album, I'm looking forward to it. New PJ is always a good thing. My only complaint is that I will be out of town when it is released, so now I will just have to find a computer to hopefully download it until I get home to get my physical copy. No biggie! :D

For a positive story - I introduced a friend to the PJ experience, sort of, at a EV Solo show. We sat in different sections since I could only get singles so I couldn't get her intial reactions. But the enthusiasm she had afterwards was just awesome, she was instantly in love, and she is not some teenager with puppy love. She said she closed her eyes the first she heard his voice and was just in awe the rest of the show. I was so happy that she was able to share that experience with me, took me back to when I knew I was a more then a casual fan. Now hopefully if there is a 3rd show in Philly on the 31st she will be able to experience the "whole" experience. And if I get shut out of the pre-sale, if there is one, I will find a way to get tickets, it will be worth it to see her light up again, hopefully this time we will be standing next to each other.

So keep on bothering with the positive and ignore the Debbie Downers. The Eeyores of the world can not be changed by a board.

good call Jeff. Those EV shows were completely insane. I took a friend and he said he felt like he was in ED's living room all night. These shows were by far the most intimate setting that I've ever been to, just amazing. The sound at the two shows in Berkeley CA, were incredible, Ed even made a comment night 2 about the sound being the best venue he's been at. Ran into Sean Penn on his way in the second night. Pretty intense dude, he eyes looked right through you. Night one we had the wife of one of the Memphis 3 right next to us, just amazing. He came out after 2am that night and pretty buzzed and interacted with fans, amazing.
Checked the web there should be a good copy of the live show from night one in Berkeley. Let me know if you cant find it.
Then I kidnapped a friend and drove without tickets six hours to see him play night one in SD. Out of this world, ED came out buzzed and got political for days. An hour into the show I would say he had played maybe 5-6 songs that were now more than 2-3 min in length. He also did this Barry White thing that was rare air.

I've felt this way many times, except replace the UK with eastern Canada. Was never able to put the frustration of all the negativity in words myself. Well said & thanks for saying it!
