No offense, but is that really 72 feet? Looks like it's more like 25 - 35 feet... Either way, it's fun to have a boat...but much more fun to have a friend with a boat!!!
You're exactly right about that. The boat in the foreground plus the boat in the background may add up to 72 feet. I have a Boston Whaler 21ft (1995) and I have about 3000 hours on the ocean with it. I can say that it has been a wonderful thing and I have had so many experiences of the type that probably inspires Ed when he's surfing. Including having a 80ft Blue Whale surface about 50 feet away, or being in the middle of a pod of 5,000 dolphins all going in unison and surfing, themselves, under my hull, competing for position. As for a name, anybody with a boat knows it is bad luck to name a boat anything other than your girlfriend or wife. If I had to pick a non-spouce name, maybe go with aNiMal's suggestion of Five Horizons. Somebody in here asked about fuel economy. Mine gets 2-1/4 miles per gallon. That's pretty average for a 21-26 ft boat in its class. The one in the background of the picture in this thread probably gets 0.75 to 1-1/4 per gallon. To compensate, boats have large fuel tanks. Mine is 122 gallons. The experiences are all worth it. Too many to mention.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
If I would have a boat I would also think of something more serious. I just made stupid suggestions because I thought it's fun. But if you really need a name for a boat you'll give it a name you really love....I guess
You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself

Awesome! thanks for the answer to my question and words of wisdom!! You have definitely had great experiences on your boat! Unfortunately there are No whales or dolphins in Lake Michigan in Chicago.
HOWEVER
drive that mothersuker directly east 60 miles to St. Joseph Michigan. Stay at the municipal marina just inside the pierheads. Killer town in the summer. If you need more info PM me (once you got a boat)
Lake Michigan in the summer is the best in the world. no dolphins or whales.

Lake Michigan is awesome as are all of the Great Lakes I just read about a state park in Northern WI with a bunch of islands. Do a Google Search on "Lake Surperior Surf" There is an org called the Lake Surperior Surf club. Their pictures are amazing. To see these people surfing when there is ice chunks in the water and snow on the ground. But it is also very beautiful. There are a couple of pictures of Lake Michigan with 50 knot winds and huge seas. (1 knot x 1.15 = miles per hour, and miles per hour x 0.87 = knots, by the way). Do it! Boating is awesome!

But, the message of the song isn't very telling for a boat. That line's about being empty, you know? About feeling as low and you can get - Boating brings joy.
I mentioned in my other post that I named my boat after my wife. But Five Horizons is definitely the best non-spouse name. I've been out there so many times where and when no land is in sight and all you can see is the horizon in all directions. And "five horizons" has come to mind many times while experiencing that. At night, it becomes 3-dimensional. If there is no moon, or it's cloudy and you're far offshore, you can't tell where the sky ends and where the sea begins. A boat in the distance, with it's light looks like a firefly bouncing around because the waves moving me all around makes him look like a bug flying around. Some of the best starry skies are well offshore beyond lights at shore. If you're 40 miles out on a clear night, you can see stars all the way down to the horizon. And for the same reason the sun turns orange at sunrise/sunset, the stars do the same at the horizon. So I like Five Horizons. But again, not using the spouse's name is bad luck. Five Horizons is more of a phenomenon.

in other news, FIVE HORIZONS is by far the best boat name in this thread. Nice work Mr animal.
I was conceived on a boat named "sippin' suds" in Grand Haven Michigan 30+ years ago.
Lots of good deals on boats right now if you got the cashish....
Buy your toys with cash kids.

Oh snap, I remember when you first mentioned that! I asked you to give your dadd props and you even posted a picture of the boat!
That's actually perfect.
