I understand not wanting to see these every night, but it is critical to weave fan favorites like these in with rarities and covers to complete the Pearl Jam live experience.
this is very true, so why worry about it?
they do a little bit of everything.
*~Pearl Jam will be blasted from speakers until morale improves~*
i agree w/ Corduroy not getting old... seems to fire everyone up doesn't it? Esp. as its (seemingly) usual spot on number 2 slot after the opener....
and of COURSE dte... oh baby. formally doin'the-evolution, everyone knows thats my thing
but surrounding beware, during DTE, i've actually accidentally punched my ticket buddy in the face before!
Just because you (or I) have seen them, and these songs, many times doesn't mean everyone else has.

So I will be seeing my first show and I can agree to some of the songs listed,
No Jeremy, Last Kiss, Daughter and Crazy Mary.
But I want to add no Porch, too long and the extra guitar parts bore me.
You can't not play Ledbetter and I cannot wait to hear Mike's guitar solo in Even Flow live.
I also must hear Given to Fly (my favorite) and Corduroy is always awesome!
Now songs I really want to hear that don't always get played are:
Down, Dirty Frank, Glorified G, Go, Small Town, Spin the Black, Tremor Christ, Immortality (though it gets played a lot), You Are and Smile
I would love to see them close a show with Around the Bend, it's one of my new favorites.

How could you not love when they open with "Corduroy"?
Would love to see that one day with the Interstellar Overdrive tag at the beginning!

I dont understand you. Yea we have all heard those songs 1000 times but I only get to see PJ live one or two times a year. I will listen and love whatever fuck they decide to play. You should too.
Walks on his own... With thoughts he can't help thinking...
no .. just no. i don't care how many times they play those songs. they should NEVER be shelved. especially alive. are you kidding me? the number one thing that excites me at shows is seeing some sweet RARE songs that i love. however, these still should never be shelved.

im sorry all this talk about piss breaks and shelfing songs??? first off i have been to about 20+ shows and HAVE NEVER EVER took a break during a pearl jam show AND I DRINK .......ALOT........as for shelfing songs.....these are the songs the gets everyone pumped up....and jumping around AND WHY WE ALL BECAME FANS......you people are off your rocker... if there was one song and only one song i would have to choose ......................
...................................................................................................................................
...................................................................................................................................
.................................................................................................................................
ENCORE BREAK..........
now we all know............even if pj played the exact same setlist for each show on a tour, a large number of the people who type around this website would still try to get tickets to as many shows as possible.
live and let live...unless it violates the pearligious doctrine.

There are plenty of other songs that would get me going, breath, alone, deep etc I wouldn't mind a change and having obscure sets, just because im not jumping around it doesn't mean that i wouldn't have a good gig, if anything, if i heard songs like tremor christ and rival it would probably be a better show :P
As a long time fan, I enjoy seeing the deep cuts. But I went to a show a few years ago (Boston/Mansfield night 1, 2003) and my buddy, a casual PJ fan was really disappointed by the show. He hardly knew any of the songs, and he said that he wouldn't go back again. Especially with today's ticket prices. It was the first (and only) time that I brought someone to a show and didn't convert them to a fan.
Last summer's tour would have been great for a casual fan because they weren't promoting a new CD, it was practically a greatest hits tour (the opposite of the purpose of this thread).

My gf had the same reaction to the Vic show. She thought it was cool being that close to a group of legends, but she didn't know any songs really and was kinda underwhelmed. We both enjoyed the Lolla set more.
Instead of shelving songs, I think Pearl Jam should walk out on stage and just stand there for a couple hours. That way, we'd still get to see the band and not have to complain about what songs they did or did not play.
