AutoTune

Whats your opinion on it?
Is it bad or good for the music scene?
I am really fond of Imogen Heap and I am not sure if she uses AutoTune but she uses something similar, and her music is brilliant.
But it seems like its the hottest thing in music or at least hip hop and mainstream pop.
Kanye certainly used it brilliantly on 808's and heartbreaks. And it seems like thats the high point peak of AutoTune.
But there are others who think its a bad thing. Does having autotune take out the spontaneity and edge and rawness? Or is it merely helping someone's voice sound more appealing?
Jay-Z has that new single out where he basically says AutoTune is dead. And seeing as how Jay is one of the trendsetters in modern hip hop, I wonder if the song will indeed have an impact and lessen Autotune's influence.

auto tone is for hacks... but I do enjoy Imogen Heap, what she does is a little different.

kanye overdid it on 808s... its annoying in quantities like that... hip hop in general uses it as a crutch for people that cant sing rather than as a distinct effect for people that can
dont see it going anywhere soon though... its got an electronica / 80's sound that very in with (and beyond) the club scene

I'm sure the exact same thing was said about electric guitars, effects pedals, multi channel amps etcetcetc.
