Joe Sakic deserves his own thread, no?

It's hard to think of an NHL without Joe Sakic. Hell, even in injury he was well-known for nearly chopping of his fingers in a snowblower. The man has played at the highest level for most of my lifetime. I wait for the Ovechkin laser in the same way I waited for the Sakic wrister, knowing it can come at any time, and it almost always winds up in the back of the net. Especially in overtime. And international events, especially on that crazy great Sakic-Iginla-Gagne line in 2002 (Had to get my Flyer in there, eh? ;) ) And can anyone think of a "dirty" moment in the man's career? There is nothing not to love about this guy, and I'm sad I'll not see him play again.

Like many, I think, my iconic Sakic image is of him practically tearing the Cup out of Gary Bettman's hands to pass it on to Ray Bourque. It wasn't about Joe, it was about the team.

As the cliche goes, he played the game the way it's meant to be played. Hard work, class, excellence.
