I think so. Grux-->Shake Me is such a SICK start. I can blast that song at the highest level and just jam the fuck out to it haha. Funny The Way it Is is so much better after you watch the music video. Lying in the hands and squirm sound like something off Crowded Streets. Alligator Pie and Seven have some sick grooves, and I think dive in and spaceman are great mid tempo songs. The last 2 songs are the only ones that are just decent.

Yes the album is great, and the songs are even better live. I have always liked DMB but never been a huge fan. Well this album and the show tonight in Pittsburgh def changed that for me. Great album and a great show.

Uh... if Pearl Jam's record is anything like a DMB record, I would really be pissed.

i'm just gonna go ahead and assume the thread starter is a big dmb fan. not that there's anything really wrong with that, you just seem to be pushing the album really hard since it came out. i'd be interested in knowing if you are still listening to this and considering it a masterpiece in 6 months after the excitement of it's release has worn off. it's really just a mediocre album in my opinion, i just don't understand all this praise and i chalk it up to giddy dmb fans being excited about the first new album in 4 years that isn't as shitty as the last two.

i remember when avacado came out, i was telling people how great it was and listening to it all the time. as soon as the tour was over, i don't think i've listened to it since, and i think it's easily the worst album pj has put out. i'm wondering if that's kind of what's going on here.

......by the way, i'm not just coming here to bash your opinion, i actually did give the ablum a shot, and i just don't find it very impressive, sounds like same old dave to me, just my two cents.

Have you heard Dreamgirl? Or Hunger For The Great Light?

Big Whiskey, while good and a definite giant step in the right direction after the last 7-8 years of suckitude, is not a masterpiece, IMO. I'm with the poster above who says the the excitement of this album will die off eventually and only then will people will be able to put it into perspective. It's not a bad record by any means, but it isn't a great one either. At least I won't mind coming back to this one every once in awhile, unlike the last two DMB albums.

dmb has never been great in the studio, so it is a little early to judge big whiskey. but, i like what i hear. i think these songs will continue to grow, like the rest of dmb's catalog, into great songs live.

listen to 'two step' or 'jimi thing'. hell, 'you might die trying' in the studio and then compare to how they sound live now. they've been reworked for the better.

i think that squirm & time bomb will make show stoppers here in 2 years, while shake me will continue to get me dancing at shows. why i am & alligator pie will also fit nicely with the shows, and lying in the hands of god is beautiful. outside of those 5 songs, nothing too too memorable. but those 5 will be awesome live 2-3 years down the road still and even more so then when they get worked on a bit.

I know I am excited because it's new, but compared to Everyday and Standup, this album is SO much better.

Shake me Like a monkey is a damn classic. that song just kicks so much ass. Lying in the hands of god is an instant classic too. The only 2 songs that arent as good are the last 2 songs on the album.

Those two are by far the best on the album.
