they are the type of band where there is no, "you must own this album before you buy any other release".
They are instrumental. I have been on a major Explosions in the Sky kick recently, so moving onto another instrumental band seemed logical.
I have been digging the album Come On Die Young and Rock Action.
Yeah, Mogwai is what launched me into the whole instrumental, ambient, epic music...although Mogwai isn't exactly that. I was fortunate enough to catch there SLC show back in May and it was well worth it. As for a starting point, I would recommend Mr. Beast.
Mogwai could definitely be called a preferred or acquired taste band, and I picked up Mr. Beast without any knowledge or notion of them. I really had no major idea of what they were going to sound like except for the song Auto-Rock.
BTW, Explosions kicks some serious ass.
7/2/06 - Denver, CO
6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1
9/04/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 2
