Do you feel guilty buying albums and dvd's?

Yes I have a problem, there is this certain music store in Melbourne which is my vice.
I always say ''okay no more for a while" then I go there again.
Sometimes I keep away from this store for months at a time then relapse lol
I visited this store like 6 times in the last month, spent probably 200-300 bucks on albums and music related dvd's despite the fact I am going on a holiday overseas for 6 weeks and need to save every penny.
I am seriously addicted.

Having said that there is always guilt associated with these purchases.
If I download an album I like I HAVE to own it!

So does anybody feel the way I do?

I am addicted but I don't feel guilty about it. It's not just the buying that I'm addicted to though, even if that is a big part of it, it's listening to new music all the time. I love it. Somehow when I need a break at work, I go online and buy muisc. This happends all the time. The nice part, I always have new music waiting for me at home. Don't feel bad, there are worse addictions to have.

Is that ever true. Unless you are failing to pay the rent or support your family (which I seriously doubt), what's wrong with getting more music?! If that's what you like then you will be enjoying it for a long time. And believe me, you've got LOTS of company. ;)

If this is an addiction then I proudly confess to a habit of 40+ years! I could never have too much music. Fortunately I married someone who loves music as much as I do. 8-)

I'm in the 40+ years category too. Being a former DJ in college I've amassed 1500 cds 800 vinyl albums about a 100 or so dvds. That's some good money I could've used for a down payment for my house years ago.

    Peace

    (Standing up)

My name is EvenFlow and I'm addicted to buying music. The worst part of my addiction is the fact that I don't want to quit. I'm not hurting anyone else, so I don't see the problem.

My addiction started innocently enough, maybe one CD here, one album there, but I could always control it. That was, until a couple of years ago. I just wanted to have a good time, maybe blow off a little steam. I knew it was getting out of hand whenever I realized I owned twelve copies of the Pearl Jam album "Ten".

I'll never forget, the morning that I hit rock bottom. I woke up with a best buy bag in my lap. I didn't even realize that I had gone shopping, and whenever I opened the bag and saw that I had purchased Creed CD's that's when I knew I no longer controled it, now it controled me. Now I wonder if I'll ever be able to face my family again, after having shamed and disappointed them in such a way.

But just knowing that there are people out there going through the same thing gives me hope. Hope in a brighter tomorrow. I look forward to the day that I can walk into a store and not hand over my money for an album that I've never heard, that I'm just buying because I need some new music, no matter how crappy it is.

I just hope nothing will cause me to relapse or "backspace". 8-)
    It's all about the music...

Yes I am the same way except I have never downloaded an album. I will buy a vinyl and a cd of the same album not all the time but sometimes. Also, I will not buy anything for a few months at a time and then I drop a few hundred in about 30 minutes of shopping. It is bad and I always feel like I did something wrong but oh well... Its what I do.

That's me right there especially if one of my favorite bands came out with an album. It's so bad sometimes I'll buy a dvd like I did with RUSH: Grace Under Pressure Tour Live. Not realizing once I got home I already had a Box set with that dvd in it. I wanted to return it but since it was sealed they were only going to give be back 2 bucks. I said maybe my daughter might want it she likes RUSH too.

That's what i get for having so much music around me. :D

I will usually go to my record store once a month and browse for at least an hour. I probably on average spend 50-100 bucks. I've been buying records 35 years or so and have many times bought vinyl only to discover I had a copy of it lying around!

    NO GUILT by the way!

No I never spend money I don't have for music or movies but I always feel like I could spend it better. Maybe take the wife out for an extra night out or maybe put it aside for other needs maybe down the road. I have that little devil on my shoulder and he never leaves me alone

Everyone has things they splurge on so don't feel bad. When someone spends $2K on a purse, there are better ways they could have spent that money but that's the choice they made. I don't know about you, but I spend a lot of time at work so I think I deserve my splurges.

A little bit. I allow myself to spend $40 a month. That money could be saved for college or fishing equipment, but I love my music, so I'm gonna get it.

I think with the advent of the world of bittorents and filesharing those who do buy albums the conventional way, plopping down 20 bucks for a cd at your local record shop, will increasingly feel guilty.

I havent bought a cd in years. But when I did used to buy cd's, I frequented my local shops VERY often. The staff knew me. Even now when they see me around town they smile and say hi. At one specific shop I think I spent thousands of dollars on cd's there.

I used to go in and buy 6 or 7 cd's at a time.

I think for me, and for many people, the idea of buying 7 cd's at a store at 20 bucks a pop, 140 bucks, its alot easier on the wallet to just get a spindel of 100 blanks, and download stuff.

That said, yes, even when I was buying records legitimately I felt guilty. I would be spending in excess of 100 bucks each visit, and even though I never regretted a purchase, thats a hell of alot of money to be spending.

Plus I am one of those people who never listens to a record before I buy it. I used to when I was younger, but 95 plus percent of my record collection is made up of stuff I hadnt heard before buying or downloading. Its okay to spend 100 bucks on something you know is great, and has 10 tracks out of 12 that are great, but to blindly buy 7 records without hearing many of the bands before or any of those records is an act of faith
