Hey everybody. Im into alot of classic rock bands/artists. But for whatever reason I never got too into Bruce. Eddie playing some of his songs from Nebraska got me to sample the album on itunes, and I like what I hear.

What does everybody consider his best stuff. and I dont need beginner stuff to get into him, just his pure best.

Thanks for the help!!

Born To Run is about as perfect of an album as you can find.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

You should get Darkness on the Edge of Town - some of his best tunes IMO.

Tunnel of Love was Springsteen without the E street band per se, but I love it too.
    R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.
    R.i.p. My Dad - May 28, 2007
    R.i.p. Black Tail (cat) - Sept. 20, 2008

Hell yeah, Born to Run.. but once you "get" Bruce you'll want it all.... if you can, get the "Essential" collection- it's a good primer- somebody told me you could find torrents for that and "live 75-85" on mininova as a torrent.... just saying...

the Essential Bruce Springsteen is honestly probably the best place to start for getting into Bruce. I did that. I still wasn't a huge fan until I saw him live. It's a 3 disc set and really is a nice overview of his stuff from the earlier years.
If you like the Essential get:

    Born in the USA
    Magic
    The Rising
    Working on a dream
    Those are all good too.

I only liked a few songs off of " Devils's and dust" but that was an acoustic album he put out back in 2005.
That's all I really know about Bruce. Great Live though for sure.
Maybe a Bruce die hard board member like Bathgate can offer some more in deph suggestions.

    Born To Run, definitely.

Also The Rising is one of my favorites of his.

Like others have already said, start with The Eseential Bruce Springsteen CD set because it's a great place to start. I bought it and gave me a good idea of what Bruce is all about.

My favourite albums are Magic, The River, Born in the USA and Devils and Dust. But, you can't really go wrong with any album.

    Thanks everybody!!

I probably check out the essential set.

I feel like some kind of newby rock person, which im totally not. :D Bruce is just one of the artists that I never got into and not even because I dont like what I heard. Just too much other stuff I listen to or too lazy.

Most people that know me are surprised that im not into him.

My personal favorites are Nebraska and Magic, but as others have already said you pretty much can't go wrong with any of his albums.

First save your money and see him live if you can, that'll do it :) You'll want to get everything then.

lol, very funny. Please ignore this post. There's a reason he can sell out 5 nights at a 75,000 seat stadium every tour, that's hardly going downhill.

Just get the live 75-85 3 disc set and a few other live shows. Also pick up devils and dust.

hopefully he just meant studio recordings... that i would agree with to some extent... magic and WOAD are pretty "eh" IMO...

always a great live show though

I hope he meant studio and not live shows. Having grown up with bruce music always playing, I can honestly say the last 3 albums are better then some of his early stuff. You can't go wrong with anything the man puts out.

no worries. I totally understand as I was in that boat. I mean, I was into the who, Beatles, Zep all that stuff and so people looked at me in complete shock when I said I really wasn't into Bruce. Liked alot of songs but never understood the obsession. My parents were raving about his live show, and so they took me on the "Magic" tour and I was blown away. That version of Atlantic city they did is better than the original. They did the same thing with "Ghost of Tom Joad this tour. Even though I didn't recognize alot of the songs this time around, I thought this past April show was better. One of my Buddies from college (He is around my parents age, and a die hard fan) was able to tell me the ones I didn't know. I had the essential album before I saw him live, and still didn't get it, now, I love the album. Then started on indivisual albums.
