just wondering about all this talk about him never playing in the states again, also on his website in the tour section it has this logo http://tour.nin.com/ with the dates 1989 -2009 and on top of the page a logo saying Wave Goodbye

So is NIN done as a group? I love nails, but am out of the info loop for quite sometime

On February 16, 2009, Reznor posted his thoughts about the future of Nine Inch Nails on NIN.com, stating that "I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while." It is unclear when or even if Nine Inch Nails will return after the end of their 2009 tour with Jane's Addiction,[86] although Reznor has stated "We will be back some day, in some form" at a number of recent live performances. He has also stated in an interview that if other paths that he will be pursuing, such as the possible Year Zero television show, don't work out then he'll return to Nine Inch Nails, but if they do lead somewhere, he isn't sure what the future holds.

On March 20, 2009, two unreleased songs, "Not So Pretty Now" and "Non-Entity" (both left over from the With Teeth sessions) were released as a free download on http://www.ninja2009.com as a new tour sampler, alongside newly recorded Jane's Addiction and Street Sweeper Social Club songs.

Currently, the tour page on the official Nine Inch Nails website lists the tour as "Nine Inch Nails: Wave Goodbye." In addition, there is an emblem at the bottom of the page with the dates "1989-2009". Reznor has said outright in an interview on the official website that he is not done making music as Nine Inch Nails, but that he is done touring for the foreseeable future.[87]

On June 14, during Nine Inch Nails's set at Bonnaroo, Trent Reznor told the crowd that "It just dawned on me that this is our last show ever in the United States". He then said "Don't be sad. I'll keep going [in music]".[88]

I managed to find some stuff on him talking about not becoming stagnant, and how 4 piece bands will become obsolete as we know them....

sometimes I don't know if this guy is so full/brainwashed of/from his own ideas or a fucking prophet

well I loved the guys he played with sucks he is ditching them

i imagine that they will be back in some form at some time.
NIN tours are a big undertaking, and i guess trent just wants some time away from it.
Whether he comes back as NIN or as something else only time will tell.
He has some revolutionary ideas about the industry, and he has showed it is very possible to work without a label to worry about.
It is sad to think that maybe it is the end for NIN but i am glad i got to see a show earlier this year 8-)

I've loved this incarnation of NIN too (esp. Robin Finck) but I wouldn't say he's 'ditching them' per se. Justin Meldal-Johnson is a highly in-demand bassist who played 10 years with Beck and won't want for work. Ilan Rubin has his own band The Lost Prophets, and his own solo work The New Regime, and Finck I believe will always find work too. NIN is one of my favorite bands and I've followed the happenings closely the last few years.

Trent has said he is getting tired of touring and wants to move on to other things for a while. I don't think we've seen the last of him as an artist by any means, and he always surprises (free album out of nowhere The Slip, Ghosts just popped up one day, the whole Remix site) and has never disappointed me yet. I'll trust him and while I'm in NIN withdrawal just now (4 shows the week before last) I look forward to new work but all artists need down time and he hasn't given himself much of that in the last few years.

i give him 2 years tops before hes got something new out or in the works... the mans just too genious to not be creating... especially when hes so inspired by love right now... id expect whatever we hear next from him to be quite different from anything NIN did... cant wait

i find it hard to believe that trent would retire from music, and never release anything ever again. And the 1989-2009 logo and the wave goodbye logo are ONLY on the Tour page. If he was done forever with music, dont you think that would be on the front page of his site? On the news portion?

I think he probably is doing just what he said, not touring again. The beatles stopped touring in 65 I think, and still had 5 more years of churching out hit after hit. Maybe he just wants to be a studio musicians and just create albums.

Trent seems to be on the forefront of what it means to be a musician in these days of downloading and itunes. He seems extremely forward thinking and seems to be 20 steps ahead of most bands, except maybe Radiohead.

I have said it before, whatever comes out of this whole "downloading vs buying albums legitimately" debate, I wouldnt be surprised if the new way of promoting and distributing music comes not from the mind of some executive but from Trent himself.

The band may be done, as in the touring aspect of it, but there is no way in hell Trent is done. In interviews this past year, he DID NOT say stuff like "I dont get much pleasure out of music anymore" or "I am thinking of quitting music". He said nothing to that effect at all
  • After just going to my second show by Trent and Co, LITS and NINJA, I don't see how he has made it this long. I was literally sore after the NINJA show from rocking out so HARD. My neck/back hurt for 2 days! I bet he comes back after a couple years. I heard that he is taking time off to finally put together a TV series he has wanted to do for a while. Supposedly the idea was picked up by HBO, I hope so to see how it comes out.

It all might have something to do with his engagement too.

I really wanted to catch them on this last tour, but the tickets sold out too damn quick. Hard to believe I won't get another chance. :|
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

NIN as far as a live artform is done for "a while" (my guess is 5 to 10 years till we see the man perform again)....TR will always be doing/creating something, it's what he does!!
