Hi,
Im Scott, Im new to this forum, so sorry If I posted this in the wrong section.

I have a question about records and record players. Im new to the whole Vinyl game, so If I sound like I have no idea what Im talking about its becasue I dont.

I recently bought the new reissue of 10, the Legacy Edition. I can play the records that come with this set. But when I put on some old records(form the 60s and 70s) I can only hear sound coming directly from my record player(its a very faint sound), but no sound is going to my speakers.

What would casue this? And how could I fix it?

  • Your question is pretty much unanswerable without some details about your setup.

Good point. I dont think the issue is with the set up. My new vinyl are working but my old ones are not. So both the sterio and the player seem to be working. I was thiking maybe there was a change in the medium I didnt know about.

but my set up is a Nexxtech record player, its new, I tryed to find some info on it online but there site does not list models. Its being feed into an old stero player by A/V style input cables.

What other type of info could you use?

    I found the record player.

    That's weird.

I don't know how old your stereo is but does it have a phono input? The signal output from a turntable is extremely low and can not be heard through a regular line-in input without amplification. The phono input was standard on stereos in the 70-80's but since vinyl was going out of style in the 90's, most stereo makers stopped including the necessary "phono" input except on their high end brands.

If that is the problem based on what you're describing, you'll need to grab a pre-amp, you can get one at a place like radioshack fairly cheap.

Although, it doesn't explain why you can play your Legacy edition with no problem.

Thanks. The record player itself has an option for Phono or line out. Ill look more into that. Thanks.
