why is your favorite song the best?

my fave- Faithful. or faithfull, depending on where you see the title.
I love this one because it opened me up to trusting myself. so many of us gror up being coached into trusting some being we can't touch or see. it seemed so abstract to me at the time. and then there was part of me that was the "what if?"- what if there IS a God out there....
But it tends to be that when times are rough, you really feel that the only one you CAN count on is yourself. and so many people never put faith in themselves. they go to family and friends and clergy, etc for advice and wisdom, when, deep down inside their gut has been telling them what needs to be done all the time.
This one song just reminded me of that- to trust yourself, your instincts, your own wisdom and advice.
muscially, I love the ebb and flow of this piece. I love how the words are linked together- me you you me it's all related. that hits me so fuckin much. it's so damn true. it's all related. the birds to the sky to the sea to the plant in riding the wave to me and you and everything. everything is everything.....

just love this song.
what's your fave and why is it the best?
oh Ed! what big vinyl you have!

  • Faithfull is really positive as well...

    WE'RE FAITHFULL

    WE ALL BELIEVE
    WE ALL BELIEVE...

for me it's not about religion or god... it's about Faith... believe in what you're doing... and you can do it... if you believe...

    great positive song too

that's what I mean. it's about trusting yourself. that's what I love about it. I mean, how many of us are ready and willing to dish out advice to others, but we never take our own. we never trust ourselves...

Me you you me it's all related
    what's a boy to do
just be a darling and I will be too
    faithful to you....

    i love that bit

  • My favorite is Jeremy, because it is the best song Pearl Jam have out and it totally rocks! Of course all of their songs rock, but combined with the video and the crazy look Eddie has it makes this song the best!!! Next, I would have to say Hungerstrike, and
    then they all follow.
  • I'd have to say In Hiding. I only got into PJ about 3 years ago and this song meant so much to me as I went through tough times socially and just wanted to lock myslef away. It brings me back to the times when I felt I could make a difference in my life and so will always be special to me.
    I don't need a helmet, I've got a hard, hard head

    I don't need a raincoat I'm already wet

    Rats

    Its like a social commentary.
Like Pilate I have a dog
  • "Release" is best because I can relate to it a lot. It has great lyrics, and Eddie's voice is so emotional in the song.

Oh, dear Dad, can you see me now? I am myself, like you somehow...
I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish. I guess it never stops...

    Given to fly,

it starts with that marvellous guitar intro,
Ed starts singing that marvellous story
and then with the second part of the verse all hell breaks loose :)
    "A wave came crashing..."
that's exactly what this song feels like. It's like a wave crashing all over me. It hits me every time I hear it.
And then we have that power explosion of a chorus
and then it's calm again, waiting for the next wave to come.
The very intense 'well fuckers, he still stands' (how he sings 'we still stand' sometimes, makes it even more intense).
    And then wave number two.
"And he still gives his love..."
marvellous lyrics, I really cannot stay seated easily with that part (make that: on that song).
    Chorus number two.
and then some glorious kind of a guitar solo
and the wave is down again, all ends calm, storm is over
    Boy boy, what a song.
If they come to Europe next year, and they play that on a show I'm attending, I think I'm going to cry during a concert for the first time in my life.

    Given to fly,
not a day goes by without listening to it.

  • I like Immortality. I know its a bit of a dark song dealing w/ suicide but it just moves me. Great lyrics, great song, great band.
"Everyone is a patriot in some form or another.... i prefer the intelligent ones."

    "She fell funny"

"Klaus Daimler, 40, engineer, calm, collected, German"
  • Indifference, such as emotional song. Superd metaphors.
'Fox hunting is barbaric, the people who do it are a bunch of snobby tories with stupid posh accents. Oh damn, i didn't say that - damn, what a giveaway...'
  • Given To Fly

This song means a lot to me... it has to do with my life and the way I was grown up by my parents... and it makes me reach everything I want... it makes me see that everything is possible if I want it to be.

I´m going to have it tattooed on my left wrist this afternoon :)
Just like it´s written on the Yield booklet :)
