One of my favorite, this still is from the show "Car 54, Where are You?"  Points for naming the actor, bonus points for telling us what other show he starred in:

Is that a young Herman Munster? I’ve never seen Car 54, but I thought that looked like Fred Gwynne?
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”

I didn't add this one earlier because he doesn't really qualify as a TV character but he provided the voice over and bookmarked every episode of one of my all time favorite shows. Nothing beats the original - Rod Serling.

Just watched a documentary on him last week.  Absolutely amazing man!  Wish I would've met him while he was alive but he was gone too soon.  I actually used to take some of the classes from his traveling instructors when I was in my teens.  I'd love to check out the museum in Florida one day.  Been down there a couple times but never made the stop.

I've never watched The Wire.  I think they're all on Prime so I should check it out.  60 episodes, I could crank that out in a few weeks weeks.
Do it! Excellent series, great acting and writing. Season 4 is the pinnacle. Many people think season 2 was not so great, but I love that season now more than most of the rest.
4 episodes last night.  It's pretty good so far.  A little confusing at first getting to know all the characters but I'm getting the hang of it.

so many great shows but for me these are the best characters I have even seen:

    Don Draper - madmen
James - the end of the fucking world
    JR Ewing - Dallas
    Jack Donaghy - 30 rock

    Al Swerengen
    Roger Sterling Mad Men
    Tim Riggins FNL
    Kevin Arnold Wonder Years
    Omar

Swegen is the best TV character I have ever seen. Can’t wait for the movie. Wish Powers Boothe was still around because he was great with Al.

I know it's a little old but I think all the characters in both Friends and Seinfeld was really great.

    Yes!

Car 54 was a kick.  Gwynne with his dour, flat humor was hilarious. Haven't seen that show in ages.  Must be some on YouTube- I'll have to go look sometime.

Glad to see all of the Breaking Bad and The Wire love on here. Couldn’t agree more. I was surprised no one has mentioned any characters from Entourage (Ari Gold comes to mind) or The Big Bang Theory. This list would be too hard for me, but Sheldon would have to be up there.

Only 5 was the intention....I could put 25 up, easily.
That's the beauty of a Top 5 list.

I love how many people love Al Swearengen

This is your opinion.  Nobody is wrong.  (Unless you choose Cliff Huxtable)

Left many favorites behind, but here are my Top 5:

    Al Swearengen, Deadwood
    Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones
    Omar Little, The WIre
    Ron Swanson, Parks & Rec
    Tuco Salamanca, Breaking Bad

I’ve never seen any of those shows.

Ari's great, but I'd have to give my nod to Johnny Drama as far as Entourage goes
