The Wire should be mandatory viewing in order to graduate high school.

Leaving out a lot but first to mind -

    Jack Bauer - 24

    Tommy Gavin - Rescue Me

    Vic Mackey - The Shield

President Bartlett - The West Wing

Coach Taylor - Friday Night Lights

Loved The Shield and 24. Can't believe I forgot about Jack Bauer. The Shield has one of the best intro themes of all time. Loved Dutch and Shane.

I agree with you on the intro to The Shield.  I had to pick one and it had to be Vic - he was such a bastard, but so compelling. Jack Bauer was the first character that came to mind.

I love The Wire, couldn't pick one character though. I have not seen Breaking Bad yet - it's on my Netflix watch list.

It has to say something that in the first several posts, there were 4 different Breaking Bad characters named.

Jesse Pinkman - Breaking Bad - "Bitch"

Tyrion Lannister - Game of Thrones "I drink and I know things"

Ron Swanson - Parks and Rec - "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Don’t teach a man to fish…and feed yourself. He’s a grown man. And fishing’s not that hard"

Dwight Schrute - The Office - "I don’t have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor’s dog"

Tommy Gavin - Rescue Me - "Asshole"

Man, there are some good ones up there (though I too have yet to see GoT or Breaking Bad).

Also, I forgot about Frank Pembleton on Homicide.  Talk about intense.

Totally love your Holder from The Killing pick. I thought that was a great show.

But you MUST get on the ball with Breaking Bad and GOT. Those are 2 phenomenal programs.

P.S. good to see you back

So many great characters and now that I've had time to think about it more, here's a few I missed. Sorry, 5 is too hard when you start breaking down genres and past shows.

    Selina Meyer, Veep
Christopher Titus, Titus (Hilarious show cancelled too soon)
    Nelson Van Alden, Boardwalk Empire
    Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel
    Dr. House, House
    Doug Ross, ER
    Max Guevara, Dark Angel
    Hannibal Lecter, Hannibal
    Jack Shepard, Lost

    Classic shows:
    Perry Mason, Perry Mason
    Sam McCloud, McCloud
    Simon Templar, The Saint
    Uncle Martin, My Favorite Martian
James T. West, The Wild Wild West
