Been on the fringe of being a huge fan for several years, but I now realize what an amazing talent Jason Pierce is! Much of his recent music is based on his recent bouts with serious illness, including liver cancer!

Saw them with Nick Cave at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago, as well as a headline show a few weeks back at the Wiltern in L.A.

They opened for either Radiohead or Oasis in L.A. sometime back in the 90s, but I was oblivious to them.

here are a few links to NPR interviews/concerts

not to sound all freaky, but their shows really bring me to a higher place!

    Not freaky at all! :D

They do exactly the same for me,that is one of the things that is so wonderful.Seeing them live is definitely a spiritual experience. The way the sound's stir and Jason's voice elevates me.

Same here apart from seeing them only twice. Each album is a total trip with it's own feel. I thought Ladie's & Gentlemen.... couldn't ever be topped but my favourite now is Songs In A&E and the new one gets better each time I listen to it. My favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vSsuAZiw5k
Around 1:14 when the backing vocals kick in is so haunting, I really love this band so much!!

I decided to pick a number at random and came up with S so it's been a healthy diet of Spiritualized, Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth.... :D

This line is sheer genius.Jason is an amazing lyricist,it's like story telling and poetry.

    I think I can fly

Think I'm the life and soul

    Probably complaining
Think I have caught it bad
    Probably contagious
Think that I'm a winner, baby
    Probably Las Vegas
    Come on

    Incredible.

One of the reasons I love Songs In A&E so much are how much thought has gone into the lyrics as is the case with the majority of songs anyway but this album feels like such a journey with all the instrumental interludes. I love Sweet Talk for this amazingly poetic verse:

I can't take care of my baby
I can't take care of mine
'cause no God given war in this world's
    about life…
And you say “Where do you stand on the war?”
Well you stand right where you stood before
As far from the bullets and bombs
    As they fall
And you stand there and fight for it all
But you don't own a gun
And when the shells start to fall all around
    You don't have to run

Like you say stargirl69... genius!

I tend to gravitate toward Amazing Grace more.I could play Lord Let It Rain On Me for days on end and I would still get a full body rush every time. They are the only band whose entire catalogue I have on my ipod at all times.Always need their sound close by when I need some soul soar or when my soul is sore

You should check out their entire Glastonbury set on youtube Veddertown, think it's from 04.Jaw dropping, but book out an evening,it's 1:15 long.

I had an audio rip of this on disc a while back but never got around to backing it up and now it's MIA from a party. I watched this on BBC and haven't seen it since so thanks for the reminder. I just put this on my favourites list for later, I'm trying to resist the urge right now as I have some messages to send.... :)

They just released two new songs on the 11th (I gather this means there is an upcoming album). "A Perfect Miracle" and "I'm Your Man". I really dig them, especially I'm Your Man. :) "A Perfect Miracle" is good but sounds a lot like some other very well-known song - it's right on the tip of my tongue! What is it?? Gaahhh, I know it; it's just out of reach in my brain!
