Best place to stay in Rome?

Flying into FCO airport which is a bit out of the way, so is it best to stay near Vatican City and the other historical stuff or just stay near the stadium? Is public transport good in Rome or is it a pain to get to the stadium?

    Hotel Portuguese is a chill spot in a central location if you are looking to see the sights as well as the show.
