UPDATE **Dad Diagnosed with ALS last year** PAYING IT FORWARD RELEASE IN BOSTON FOR DEREK

Feel free to make fun.  I don't post often.

My wife and I will be in Chicago for the Wrigley shows on August 18th and I was curious how the band found out about certain fans and their requests.

My dad was diagnosed with ALS last year and I would love to hear 'Smile' that night.   I play harmonica, and the words to that song are meaningful to me and my situation with my dad.

I love that song and it would be cool to hear while we were there...  the Gleason Foundation is donating a gift basket to my dad's charity softball game I started last year and I know Steve Gleason is close with PJ.

Thanks for your input, both positive or otherwise.

    I think you made a request right here! I made a request on here (just by posting) a few Years ago and was lucky enough that a lady in front row made the same request on the night... So, it probably wasn't my request... But I'd like to think maybe a little bit of my post made a difference...!

    Don't mean to threadjack, but what do you guys think is PJ's most UNIQUE song? (Aka the song that is the most different from all of their other ones).

    Does anyone here have any experience of doing that, handing a letter to a member of the crew requesting a specific song, and it being played?

    Yes i was with tobias from Sweden who did just this in Stockholm. Got his song and a shout out and ed pick all  that he aaked for in the letter. I believe he bumped into smitty and handed him a letter for ed. Told me all about it as i was standing next to him waiting for the show. Low and behold. It all played out exactly as he told me. So yesits possible

    I never would have even thought of that approach. Sometimes road crew can be really irritable if you approach them asking questions of them!

    If you are polite im sure it can't hurt to ask. After all its better than not trying. Maybe have multiple copies of the letter try other people. Maybe send one to the venue like pap says think outside the box

    They do probably glance here from time to time. Does anyone have any more information on that? I'm just so interested in the level of communication between the band and their audience. Having said that, I'm just happy to see them play anything as I've only seen them twice.

    We were blessed to get front row for Atlanta 2000. My wife requested Immortality to Ed directly, came back after break and played but forgot the words. Check out the video. First time I think Ed was actually embarrassed. He made it up to her by handing her his set list after the show. What makes them so great.

    I’m very sorry to hear about your dad’s condition. I can only imagine how tough that must be for your family. I wholeheartedly support your request and will be crossing my fingers for you to hear it played at Wrigley!

    After loosing my Dad in June of 2016, I posted here as an outlet to express the feelings I was going through and explained how “I’ve got a Feeling” connected me and my dad. The good people of this community kept it on the first page for most of the summer and somehow it got to the band. I hope the same happens for you and I’ll pledge to bump this thread whenever I’m on here as a reciprocal show of love.

    Hearing that dedication in Boston (we were right on the field, about 20 feet from the stage) meant the world to me and my family and helped me get out of a really dark place. It will be something I’ll cherish forever. I’m looking forward to playing the bootleg for my son (now only 9 months old) when he gets older to honour the grandfather that he never got to meet. This band is so unique and they just get it.

    I hope you get to hear Smile. ALS is a terrible disease. We lost my Dad to it after a very intense battle. Thinking of you and your family and wishing the absolute best to your Dad.

    Coming from a guy who lost a relative to this horrible disease, I (once again) REALLY hope you get Smile! To just hear that harmonica come in for you guys would be fantastic! Great song.
