Thanks everyone, going to give the Outlets shuttle a shot.  I'd imagine if there were issues with the line last year they'd address it this year.  Cheers!

For anyone who has done Ohana in the past, is the shuttle a must?
The shuttle is convenient, but the lines to get the shuttle at the end of the night are massive.

If you are staying close-by, you may want to use Uber or Lyft.
Last year I used the shuttle to enter the festival, but simply walked back to my car at the end of the night. The long shuttle line just wasn't worth the wait. It took about 15-20 minutes to walk from the festival to my car, so certainly not unbearable.
I believe you and Joe are possibly referring to two different shuttles. There's an off-site shuttle that runs from the San Clemente Outlets to the festival for $10 roundtrip per day (Referenced here: https://www.ohanafest.com/travel/#transportation).
There are also free shuttles that run within the Doheny State Beach parking lot, which go to the sections of the parking lot further down the beach (When I didn't park in the immediate lot next to the fest entrance, I took this shuttle inbound last year and then walked back car afterward which I believe is what walkunafraid is referencing).
I can't speak to the off-site shuttle as I have not taken it either year at Ohana.
You are correct on my end. I have no experience with the San Clemente shuttle. I park in the Doheny lot, which is I highly recommend.

Looks like they are going to be stricter this year. Only clear backpacks and bags this time.

Dang, that's a long list of what we can't bring. I can't take my awesome mesh bag again, instead, everyone needs to bring clear plastic. Good thing we can bring chapstick.

Oh how times have changed.  Two of the Pensacola '12 VIP items aren't allowed at Ohana this year! ;)

To anyone looking for cheap accomodations, check out House of Trestles in San Clemente. It's a surfer hostel my brother and I stayed at last year. If you're good with those kinds of places, it was really chill and we met some really cool people from all over the world. The owners were super nice and the vibe was very welcoming. You can walk to the beach in 5 minutes and it's a 10 minute ride from the venue.

Did you park in the lot last year?  If so, was it a hassle to get out?

I've parked in the lot each year. I've usually taken my time getting back to my car so that traffic thins out a little. Wasn't too bad overall.

Thanks.....we did the shuttle in 2016, and our vip wristbands allowed us to bypass the huge line.  Last year, we took an uber both ways, but this year, our hotel is farther away so we will probably park on premises.

Be warned, if you made your hotel booking via Booking.com, apparently there was a delay in the system of reserving at the hotel. I just got bumped from my hotel claiming that they were overbooked by 20 rooms. I found something else, but it was frustrating and nerve wrecking.

The Hampton Inn in Mission Viejo has rooms for around $150.....the Residence Inn by Marriott in San Juan Capistrano is about $100 more.

So you got bumped from the beachfront inn & suites?  I haven't gotten an email yet but I booked directly through hotel.

  • Hi......I am attending a conference in North San Diego (Mission Valley Area) the weekend of Ohana Fest.  Considering driving up to see Eddie Saturday night.  I wouldn't be able to leave for the fest till 5 pm Saturday evening and would have to drive back after.  Is leaving San Diego at 5 going to allow me to get there in time or is traffic going to be an issue?  Easy drive back to San Diego same night?   Trying to see if it is realistic for me to attend.  Thanks!

You should be fine with traffic
