Any recommendation for earplugs for a kid?  I am taking my 7 year old to his first show this year!  I would hope to not have to make him wear those huge ear-muff style sets that you see kids wearing at sporting events.  Thanks.
Given lil kids, lil ears and hearing, I would go with the larger hearing protection that you are looking to avoid.  Tinnitus dating back to a bad ear infection in the 6th grade, but helped along by years of concerts with no hearing protection, I would go with the bigger and better to have a kid avoid the issues that I have.

In general the ear muffs are recommended for children due to the size of their ear canals.  That said, if you are against that, buy several kinds and use whatever fits your kid the best.  The regular foam ones will have the best shot as they obviously roll down to a very small size and then expand to fill the gaps.
But there is a reason you see kids wearing the ear muffs at sporting events.  My daughter wore ear muffs exclusively until she was abotu 9 and we then found some foam ones that worked for her.  I'm going to try some of these pre-molded ones for her now but with the foam as a backup.

I just use generic earplugs.  I find I can hear the music better with the earplugs in than with them out. After a few years of using them I can’t imagine not using them.
Me also, not using them is not possible with me

I don't know how people go to concerts without earplugs.

    This is what I use:

    I use the same ones.

Saw this thread back in April, decided to pick up a couple of pairs of Sonic Defenders for myself and my wife. Tried them out for the first time this weekend. Saw Janelle Monae from the 2nd row (right underneath a bank of speakers), and the Foo Fighters/Dinosaur Jr from the Field Boxes. Sound was good with the earplugs in - a little bassier, but not muddy - and best of all, we could hear after the shows! Very happy with them, after years of ringing ears!
