NOT FOR YOU...(more like not for youngsters)

A few days ago a friend sent me a link for the lollapalooza show. Half way in eddie starts rambling about something and the drops the 'f bomb.' some youngsters in the room overheard the video and said 'hey, someone on your video is cursing.' At that point I realized pearl jam is NOT FOR YOUNGSTERS. I never thought I'd have to censor pearl jam. its sad eddie still feels he needs to curse during his rants. What a shame!

Why do some adults/parents think that everything has to be kid friendly? There's a new beer bar by me that is kid friendly and I will never go there. I don't want to be around your kids in a damn bar.

It's not Eddie's fault you don't know what is and isn't appropriate to play in front of "youngsters." Don't blame it on the rants and act like you didn't know what was coming. What exactly did you expect the kids to hear when the band started Porch?

Since birth, my kid has listened to death metal with my husband.  In my house, PJ is probably more censored than what he exposes her to. No worries.  She is 14 and isn't damaged by it.

Ultimately, you have to decide what is best for you and your family, but PJ and EV are the way they are.  No need to change to be a Kids Bop friendly performance for all ages.

I remember when I was a young lad and Listing to Soundgarden's Down on the upside when it was released.

Ty Cobb hit me like a bag of bricks.

    But I turned out alright.

Edit the bootlegs. If you're using them as background music, why would you want much (if any) of Eddie's ramblings? Trim the files, then you don't have to worry.

I remember hearing The Who's "Who Are You" for the first time when I was in middle school. Hearing "who the fuck are you" in the lyrics fucked me up for a long time.

Good idea.  That will involve some
work though and I have enough of that already!  I’ll probably just rip them to iPod files or whatever that means and make a playlist of bootlegs without songs with foul language in em.

My 8 year old daughters favorite song is "Lukin"...  Luckily, she only sings "stop at the supermarket, people stare like I'm a dog" but I think she knows what other words are in there...  Oh well, hope she manages to grow up in this world having heard a bad word or two at such a young age.

Don't most of the studio albums have at least one curse word, too?  If they're that impressionable, it's good to do a little research before you just play something you'll regret.  You may want to listen closely so you can save those precious minds from such profanity ;)

Without looking it up, I don't think Backspacer does. I'm not sure LB does. Amazon says Backspacer is "explicit" which could just mean it's not necessarily a radio edit.

Swear words are kind of superstitious.   They're really only bad because someone said they were bad.   It seems to me they every successive generation is getting more lax with them.   I kind of predict swears words will lose their power as generations increasingly use them and the cease to be superstitious.

That's a good point. Their most famous song Jeremy says "fuck." And the crowd is encouraged to say FUCK really loud at that part when it's performed live.

Dude, I would actually advise against playing Pearl Jam bootlegs for this reason. Not to discourage live Pearl Jam in your bar. Something in the Live On Two Legs-vein would work better. But if you just pull some random official bootleg and put it on, long instances of crowd noise or dumb ramblings by Eddie could be uncomfortable.
