    My favorite Scorsese film!

I just got back from the cinema with my daughter. We saw A Wrinkle in Time. It was a beautiful film, but they got so much wrong. No Aunt Beast? Motherfuckers!

We had family movie night last night and watched The Bad News Bears (1976).

    Baywatch.

Honestly not as bad as I expected going in. Dumb but also somewhat fun. I've seen worse.

a buddy of mine implored me to watch this (he's a big "explosions and boobs" kind of guy). I don't turn many movies off, but man, I was tempted with this one.

I had heard it was the worst movie of 2017 so that was my expectation. I feel like there had to have been worse movies last year.

well for sure. there were some funny parts, mainly where the movie was making fun of itself, with Zack Whatshisname constantly saying "why are we doing this? don't you people realize we're just lifeguards and not police??!!!". LOL

The Lovely Bones, very well done, reminded me a lot of What Dreams May Come or Big Fish.  Kind of sad it took the critical drubbing that it did when it came out.

Ah. Well I think the movie got panned because it really pales in comparison to the book. It's a great read!

my wife said the same thing. she read the book and said it was phenominal, but was disapointed in the book. I think she said the movie even left out a pretty big plot point in the book or something? I can't recall.

    Everest (the 2015 film).

After reading Krakauer's Into Thin Air and half way into Ed Viesturs' No Shortcut to the Top (both excellent books!) and seeing some other films and documentaries about Everest, this one was a let down for me.  Part of the problem is that I'd become fairly familiar with several of the main characters through reading books and watching documentaries and interviews, so the actors in this film, especially  Josh Brolin as Beck Weathers (yes, Weathers is from Texas but no need for Brolin to do the phony accent- it ain't there), just didn't match up well at all. That plus the numerous factual errors.

But like my wife said, if I hadn't read the books and seen the other films, I might have liked it better.

It's a shame Krakauer sold off the rights to the story years ago and let it get into the wrong hands.  The right film for this story has not yet been made.
