    I agree with you.
This 7 night tour in 4 different ballparks where people have to travel often times far distances and then stay in expensive hotels for 3 nights.  To those of you who have the means & time to do so good for you more power to you & I'm happy for you.  There are a lot of us out here where its just not feasible.
Although it's fun to be there when you are there, because you are there.  Baseball stadiums in general are not at all the best places to watch concerts.  Because of all the angles ment for the ball dimond.
Football stadiums would be better at least they're symmetrical rectangles.
But if you're sitting around first base or third base 25 rows up as I was last time, its still a long ways to center field, and they all look like ants on the stage, (I was glad they had the big screen up last time, otherwise it would have been very hard to watch Mike McCready ripping the strings off his guitar during Masters of War)
so you end up watching the big screen.
And you've got these secondary tickets going for $300 $400 in the worst possible nose bleeds behind home plate.
The good old tours where they release an album and hit the arenas Pavilions and amphitheaters is much more desirable and appreciated by myself at least, and I'd bet a few others.

Glad they played some southern shows but 2003 was the last time they played a non festival atlanta show. Last time they played at all was 2012.
I could use a hometown sleep in my bed show

I think if/when there is a new album we'll see a return to arena shows and more dates. Not necessarily 2003 style but definitely 2013/2016 style. I too am kinda surprised that after taking 2017 off there are so few dates scheduled here in the states.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I’m not overly familiar with previous PJ touring trends, so I was hoping for some knowledgeable info! I live in Indiana and would LOVE to see a Columbus, Cincinnati, or Indy show in the next few years. Wrigley would have been do-able for me this year but I will have a brand new one month old baby at that time so time and money will not be as available! Haha.

As an Indiana man myself, I would love more Indy shows, but I think those are only going to come around during massive tours for new albums at this point.
As long as they are close enough so that I can at least drive (like Chicago), I won't complain too much...

At this point in their lives, the days of 40+ arena stops may be over or vastly diminished.

Given their other responsibilities in life, and enormous demand for their tickets, there may be fewer arena shows down the road

The logical expectation is that a more extensive tour will accompany the release of a new album. That's how it's always been, actually. Every album has had a tour, this period of waiting just feels different because it's been abnormally long since Lightning Bolt. I view these ballpark shows as ways to fill the void and keep longtime fans interested. But it makes little sense to spawn a larger tour without an album to support; although there are a lot of PJ fans out there, filling arenas in smaller cities isn't as easy as a lot here seem to think, and I imagine having no new music out compounds that.

I'm thinking it will be like the Lightning Bolt tour(s), where they play a bunch of shows over a certain region one year, shift to another area the next year. A couple months of touring each year for a few years.

Also, as for the 7 shows in 4 cities, they are doing a UK/Europe tour just before it, as well as a handful of dates in South America. These US shows kind of feel like an unexpected bonus this year.

I get the feeling they've been working on album.  Several times in the past year or so where band members have been in Seattle at the same time.  The tours are getting smaller, but I would imagine when they drop the album, that they'll play more than 7 dates in 4 cities :)

I'm thinking we get a 2013 like tour once a new album is released. Hopefully early next year.

Totally agree...  i assumed no tour in 18' then was bummed when the announced SA/EUR tour...  but then the "accidental tour announcement hit" and got pumped.  Re-upped my 10C membership and waited.  So yeah..  total unexpected bonus.

Just a wild guess...  but I am thinking (hoping) they hit studio in fall have a 2019 release and then huge world tour in 20 & 21 coinciding with 30th anniversary....  One can hope.

I think we agree the industry has changed. There just isn't that much money on releasing an album, older bands now survive on their touring. Hence the need to do some touring in between albums. Why go into the studio if it may end up costing them cash? Something needs to drive their 2018 income. Bingo, 7 stadium shows.

I agree we will see more arena shows once a new album is done, however the days they hit every small town may be nearing an end. Should I try for more ;-)

My prediction is Austrailian tour in early 2019. I picture an album in mid 2019 followed by a US tour that's heavy on the west coast. Then I picture a 2020 and 2021 30th anniversary tour and I think that would be the last tour I could see reaching 40 dates in a year. Maybe another festival like PJ20. From there they could either pull an R.E.M. and step down while they're on a high or gradually play shorter and shorter tours. Either way, I'm with them and I definitely see at least one more album and one more large scale tour. Hoping they'll get back to Ohio and Indy!

The US dates are limited yes, but they're also doing SA and Europe this year.  I'm hoping after last ball park shows they take a few weeks off, then in the fall get back in the studio. A new record is way overdue, but far be it for me to question these guys. They work at their own pace, they've certainly earned that right. Everyone attending shows this year, enjoy!  Can't wait till Seattle.
