Any do you equate liberty to an assault weapon?

You give of assualt weapons and you get to keep a hell of a lot of other personal security and hunting weapons.

You are assuming all anyone wants is a gun ban.  not true. But it’s part of the solution. And I’m tired of people just completely ignoring it as a possibility.

people keep saying criminals don’t obey the law so it won’t help. Then do you lock your car? How about your house? Burglary is already against the law so why do you want other protections? It’s a dumbass argument.

    1) Ban assault weapons
    2) limit ammunition
    3) increase funding for mental health (including a robust program in schools)
    4) Beef up security in sensitive targets (like schools) with armed security guards and metal detection.
    5) Recalibrate the gun culture —— this is difficult but must start. You aren’t tough if you have a gun, just like you aren’t y’all if you own stilts. I can come up with options here... but you won’t like them either ;)

Despite what the talking heads tell you this problem isn’t that hard to understand and fix. It just takes the stomach to make it happen. And it takes time to have a large effect. But we can make some gains quickly if we actually choose to do ANYTHING.
Cincy in what capacity are we limiting ammunition?
    Magazine capacity.

This argument will go on forever unless we find a logical solution.  Which I just happen to have here.  Roll a number like bugs does here (look at his eyes, yeah, it's a doobie) and get out the drawing pad.  Peace, y'all!

The gang members are killing other gang members. They aren't bursting into schools or theaters or concerts and killing randoms in great numbers.

Your previous answer said it all though: you'll live with more mass murders of the sensational variety as long as you have the freedom to caress your AR15. Happy shooting dude!

This is the US's f**king problem: a ridiculous concept of freedom based on entitlement, selfishness and disregard for others. You guys should seriously think about splitting: put all the Cletuses in one country and let them have at each other. You could even take Trump as your leader.

    What a joke.

An AR is not an assault weapon.  It is not selective fire.  A bat can be an assault weapon.

The 2nd Amendment was not written for hunting.

    I realize that.

We will never get rid of all murders- especially in a 'have and have not' society. When the career options are Burger King or peddling dope... well... gee.

More to the topic... the people that are typically killed in error as a result of gang violence are not the people you concern yourself with anyway, Unsung. Let's not pretend to be too concerned as we try and construct a teeny weeny argument against a tidal wave of common sense.

    It's human nature to fart.

I mean... if freedom means being able to own an AR15 with a large capacity magazine... even though we know it is the weapon of choice for madmen and is responsible for crimes unparalleled in their magnitude in this era... freedom must also mean being able to relieve yourself of a little gastrointestinal gas when the body demands such.

Why hold it in? Why get up and go to the bathroom? Why concern yourself for others? F**k 'em. Smell my farts, assholes. And eat lead too. Freedom.

Speaking of planes, why wasn't the solution to allow passengers to carry handguns on them or add armed security to every plane after 9/11 to stop hijackers more efficiently? Wouldn't that be about the same logic as adding more gun carrying good guys to schools or any other soft target? Instead they ramped up flight security and restricted what could be brought on board.

If an AR-15 was named Mohammed and dressed in a thawb we would have gone to war with it and sought to ban it years ago instead of claimed there was any constitutional right to it no matter how many people were killed.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Just wait until there’s an incident like what occurred in Paris with an Islamist extremist or homegrown ISIS sympathizers. White guy? Nothing can be done. No big deal.

Good question. I've been thinking about this a lot the past few days because I really want to be the change and I've never been more fed up with the bullshit.

I'm going to draft letters and send them to my congress reps, my senators and anyone in the WH I can asking for change. It may do nothing, but that's not going to stop me from trying. Trump and the R's have an opportunity to truly make our country great again in a real capacity if they want and it would gain a lot of support down the middle. A unified response on this issue is what could help lessen the extreme divide our county is in right now.

That would be a good start...but in the meantime nothing is going to change anytime soon...and that’s sad, because with so mass shootings and people on pro gun side can’t concede that sensible gun laws would be a good idea.

One thing we can do is support one or more of the organizations mentioned here:

I'm sorry guns make no sense

If some red blooded temper boy gets a gun then me a mentally ill homeless man gets a gun

    The laws should state

Red blooded temper boys should not have guns

The future is changing we are getting smarter
Oneday a voice will rise up in power and authority

    And god will bust them
Then god will perfect a temper
The mentally ill will be saved

And fire will protect you even when standing in it.

I agree Shyner, guns make no sense.

And in keeping with our Good Man Gambs challenge to present some solid arguments, let's ask this:

Pro gun folks say that owning a gun is necessary for protection against the bad guys who have guns. Pro gun people say most gun owners are responsible with their guns (I think that may well be the case, but how does  that help reduce gun death?... I'm getting ahead of myself).  So what I want to know is, how many violent criminals have been stopped by responsible gun owners (citizens, not cops) versus how many people have been injured or killed by unlawful gunmen?  And this: How often do you hear in the news, "Upstanding citizen fends off bad guy with his gun" vs, "In tragic news today, 17 school children were shot dead by gunman"?

Well, true, I'm not exactly proposing an argument for why we should not have guns, but I am refuting the idea that we should all have guns in order to protect ourselves.  Gern Blansten's photo post on page 298 illustrates this precisely.

Everybody having guns will not make America a safer place.  I rest my case based on the evidence.

Some are slowly seeing the light! Seeing gun owners destroy or surrender their gun after the #oneless movement started. And I'm inspired by the brave students who survived the Fla. shooting banding together and becoming activists for change.  Sorry I can't get the link to post but Google one less if you haven't heard about it yet. Also there's a post in the Porch giving an address to send letters of support to the students.

Other can coming on to bands web site to bitch about gun control, what are any of you doing that would be useful to change gun laws?  I would think after 300 pages of the same people on opposite sides digging your heals in...

One thing we can do is support one or more of the organizations mentioned here:

The gun control debates will rage on for years, with no real change ever really coming. So maybe it’s time for people to get involved with their school board to see what the school boards are doing to keep your kids...while the gun control debate rages on, schools need to become more secure without it feeling like a prison.  When new schools are built in your school board, has anyone gone to planning discussions before the schools gets approval to be built...to see if they designed the school with utmost security in mind...

Hi Mom!  The weather is great in Florida...

    Odd way to show grief.

So you still stand behind this BS story?

And  just because you see someone smile in a still photo doesn’t mean they aren’t hurting. Heck I got my mom to smile after my step-fathers funeral. Does that mean she was faking her grief. You are pathetic.
