  • He thinks Canada is treating the US really badly:

We lose a lot of money with Canada. Canada does not treat us right in terms of the farming and the crossing the borders,” he said at a White House event on his new infrastructure proposal.

“So they’ll either treat us right or we’ll just have to do business a little bit diff… really differently,” he said. “We cannot continue to be taken advantage of by other countries.”

But in actuality... that's not quite accurate:

The sum of our trade, including both goods and services, is essentially balanced. In fact, in 2016, the U.S. enjoyed a trade surplus with Canada of close to $8 billion (U.S.). In manufactured goods, your surplus was nearly $36 billion,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a speech Friday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. “Those are American numbers, by the way, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, in the Department of Commerce.”

In a better moment... Trudeau went on to say, “Trade is not a hockey game. The truth is that both Canada and the United States are winning. And so is Mexico. And that’s how we should keep it. When trade is working as it should, all partners win.”

That's exactly right.. everything is transactional to Trump.  And it's binary.  In a deal, you must have a winner and a loser.  It's so bizarre for a businessman to think this way, but it seems so clear.

Generally speaking, as long as the president is a white republican male, they don't seem to mind all that much.

It’s a good question. I don’t vote for republicans much anymore cause I figured out that their fiscal conservatism....the part I use to like the most of their platform... is a joke anymore. I’ll still vote for some Republicans I’m sure, I’m not going to say never, but the GOP is dead. This new party is a bastardized version hell bent on getting and keeping power, not on doing what is right.

I've heard some serious grumbling from economists about how they are making all the exact wrong moves for an economy so strong that's 10 years deep in growth, and that the moves will make the coming recession worse.
Now is the time for raising taxes and lowering deficits, and Trump/GOP doesn't have the balls to go against their base, which doesn't understand economics in the slightest.

They are intentionally strangling the economy.  Now that they have passed tax cuts on their rich friends, they can focus on cutting social safety nets like Medicare, SSA, SNAP, ACA etc.

“We're going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Paul Ryan said during an appearance on Ross Kaminsky's talk radio show. "... Frankly, it's the health care entitlements that are the big drivers of our debt, so we spend more time on the health care entitlements — because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking.”
This.  They are increasing the budget and taking care of their rich buddies.  This administration is absolutely fucking disgusting.  It couldn't be more clear at this point that Trump only cares about himself and his massive fucking ego.

That might be pushing it.  I’d say deficit spending should be unconstitutional but we all know that doesn’t matter anymore.  But yes, too much spending, nothing changes.  At least one guy bothered to bring it up and then gets shunned for doing so.

tRump budget has proposed eliminating funding for several agencies, grant programs and institutes. Here’s a look at some of the centers and agencies the White House wants to abolish.
    1. The McGovern-Dole International Food for Education, which donates agricultural commodities and financial assistance to carry out school-feeding programs in foreign countries.
    2. The Rural Business and Cooperative Service, which provides loans, grants and payments intended to increase opportunities in rural communities.
    3. The Economic Development Administration, which provides federal grants to communities in support of locally-developed economic plans.
    4. The Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which subsidizes advisory and consulting services for small and medium-size manufacturers.
    5. 21st Century Community Learning Centers, which helps communities establish or expand centers to provide before- and after-school programs and summer school programs.
    6. GEAR UP, an Education Department program that provides grants to support college preparation for low-income students.
    7. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, which researches ways to enhance the effectiveness of health services.
    8. The Advanced Research Projects Agency, which provides support for Energy Department projects.
    9. The National Wildlife Refuge Fund, which compensates communities for lost tax revenue when the federal government acquires their land.
    10. The Global Climate Change Initiative, a proposal that reflects President Trump’s decision last year to withdraw from the Paris Climate agreement.
    11. The NASA Office of Education, which provides grants to colleges and universities, museums and science centers. The funding would be redirected within NASA.
    12. The Chemical Safety Board, which is tasked with investigating accidents at chemical facilities.
    13. The Corporation for National and Community Service, which funds service opportunities, promotes volunteering and helps nonprofit organizations find volunteers.
    14. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds public television and radio stations including PBS and NPR.
    15. The Institute of Museum and Library Services, which funds museums and libraries nationwide with grants.
    16. The Legal Services Corporation, a nonprofit that provides civil legal assistance for low-income individuals.
    17. The National Endowment for the Arts, which funds American artists and projects with grants.
    18. The National Endowment for the Humanities, which provides grants to American humanities scholars.
    19. The Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, which funds community development projects nationwide.
    20. The Denali Commission, the Delta Regional Authority and the Northern Border Regional Commission, which fund infrastructure and economic projects in specified areas.
    21. The U.S. Trade and Development Agency, which provides U.S. goods and services for foreign projects.
    22. The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a think tank focused on international affairs and foreign policy.

Ridiculous.  This is the most inept, ignorant, dysfunctional office to ever have existed.  What a fucked up mess.

Compared to the current regime President  Barack Obama was a fiscal conservative.

How do the average republicans feel now that they know they have been lied to as the deficit continues  to grow as government  spending continues to climb.
That might be pushing it.  I’d say deficit spending should be unconstitutional but we all know that doesn’t matter anymore.  But yes, too much spending, nothing changes.  At least one guy bothered to bring it up and then gets shunned for doing so.
Deficit spending when interest rates are at or near 0 is historically the best way to get out of a recession and increase employment. Taxes should have been raised on highest earners at the time too. But now? Near full employment, massive tax cuts, and interest rates about to climb? Pretty insane
