I was angry about ticket prices....

....mostly the big jump from 94 to 123 a ticket at Fenway.

But then I saw seats in Loge at Fenway (not the field, mind you, where I sat in 2016 via 10c) for Foos at Fenway, and those were $106 a pop after fees.

Couple this with all the seats 10c reserved, less shows this time around, needing to pay the crew, Boston being insanely expensive anyways, and the fact that they'll play for 3 hours and never will have "tiered" pricing of $500 for front row seats, AND that they're a religious experience every time I see them (not to mention that I'm bringing my college roommate who has never seen them and I can't wait to see the skepticism wiped off his face :)), AND that they give a shit and the setlist will be completely different each night.....and it makes me less peeved now. It's all value, and while it's a jump from 2016, they are worth their weight in gold when it comes to being worth the $123 a ticket.

They'll bring it. And I can't wait.

I'm right there with you. I was shocked when I saw the prices yesterday but having thought more about it I realize the fees these venues are charging are most to blame.

Also agree with this, though. If they announce an arena tour next year and these price increases are the new norm, it will be a problem.

About 10 years ago I would see a bunch of bands I love for around $25 (like the national, st. vincent, vampire weekend, etc).  Now they all charge $50 plus.  This world is getting expensive!!!

It was a surprise and it's a significant increase in 2 years.  But worth it to me.

And I hope the increase $ is due to ticketmaster fees that then allowed the band to secure more 10C seats.  All worth it if true.

I just got a list of bands playing the Cresent Ballroom in Phoenix this month. I haven’t heard of a single band all month, cheapest ticket is $57! Double that for 3.5 hours of PJ? Absolutely

Except wrigley is up 30% in 2 years.  Did Wrigley's fee change?

Like I said, the price is the price and I do think they are giving more of a cut to ticketmaster to obtain more fan club and verified fan tickets.

I don't know about Wrigley but this is the situation at Fenway this summer and TM isn't their ticket provider.

    Def Leppard/Journey
    $185.50 face value
    $37.50 fee
    $4.85 fee
    $227.85

    Billy Joel
    $159.50 face value
    $42.50 fee
    $4.85 fee
    $206.85

Foo Fighters (Turf seats are gone, these prices are for bowl seating)
    $79 face value
    $23 fee
    $4.85 fee
    $106.85

Guess who passed up on seeing the Misfits, Def Leppard and Billy Joel because of ticket prices?

Two thumbs pointed at this guy!

But I did splurge on the VIP for Primus/Mastadon because the cost vs what you receive is a no brainer.
  • I have to admit I was pleased with the $245 Wrigley price for two tickets. I have never before purchased through the Ten Club for tickets, so I wasn't sure what prices to expect. I had expected in the $400 range to set my expectations high. Now I'm just hoping we make it in the reserved seating lottery, but if not I did the ticketmaster fan club preregister and will try for 3 tickets in that so we can also bring our son.

Pearl jam seems to help out alot of causes that are important. Ticket prices should escalate with inflation. Trust the jam.

The OP speaks the truth. I think the prices are a little crazy (let's admit it, if they played more shows in between Seattle and Boston, maybe they could cut their costs a little bit). My sister is probably going with me, she wanted to see them again after seeing Let's Play Two in the theater and she hasn't seen them since 2003, and when I told her the prices her reply was "yeah let's go, $25 more isn't a big deal"... told her they would probably be about $100 last week. It's crazy but taking a breath and having perspective and figuring a poster and a shirt cost $35 each... it's all relative. It's the 2 year increase that still doesn't make a lot of sense.

You are correct.....not much has changed in 2 years except for artists charging closer to the perceived market value of their tickets.

The shows will sell out no matter what. Pearl Jam is a band as well as a business. Lots of people need to get paid to put on these shows!

And I don't disagree based on prices we are seeing for 2018, particularly at ballpark shows. But anyone arguing that inflation is the reason is off base.

PJ has a monopoly on selling their services, so price is driven by market value, not cost.

that is what I have been saying.

it's not a coincidence that TM gets involved and the price jumps that much.

I am an OG. I remember the Ticketmaster fight. their percentages are insane. they wanted $6 on a $20 ticket back in the day. you do the math..... those service fees add up quick.

I guess they made a deal with the DEVILs to get more fanclub tix.
