That shocks me too, as my original membership lapsed. But when I started again in 2009 I have somewhere in the 425xxx range (I believe). That means it only grew by about 100,000 between 2003 and 2009, and yet its grown 140,000 in the last year? Must have something to do with hall of fame...or perphaps it means that more flippers have joined. If that’s the case, then I’m really glad we Have this new ticket system
    478,000 2012...
Yes I think with the lottery more scalpers joined for the chance at tix along with households having 2 or 3 accounts.

It's a placeholder. The first 3 digits are the most important regarding seniority. I couldn't even tell you my last 3 digits. (And I'm sure there are some crazies here who think they need to guard it from fraud, lol.)

No, but it would be interesting if they did some spring cleaning to get rid of all the lapsed numbers and everyone was assigned their true order number. Just for the fuck of it.

Jeff Ament recently said in an interview that they had around 60,000 fan club members.
    I am #163xxx from 1998.

192xxx and I joined in '99. I've invested over $400 in memberships and the band has toured my region (Northern California) twice since 2006, one of which was festival with no Ten Club benefits. They are pretty lucky fans like us have stuck around and that some of us can travel. If you don't live in Europe, the Northeast or Chicago and can't travel you have no need for a membership. That's been pretty well proven for a decade now.

    ^ holy shit that’s impressive.

    back in 96 I was like 145k I think.  Rejoined after a lapse in 2007, I’m 404k now
Jan. 2007 here, another 404k guy. RoleModels have you used your membership for any reserved seats at any stadium shows. I have not, I'm just curious how the seats were?

The fact that 10 club numbers has jumped 140,000 spots in less then a year really has me scratching my head.
Numbers are assigned for various things. They're not actually activated for membership until dues are paid. So you can have a rush of non-members purchasing goods from the shop and subsequently have a run on numbers.
Did not know numbers where assigned for the free memberships too. Makes sense then.
What's the rationale on having that placeholder? If a free membership decides to join, they get a new number anyway.
The non-active number would then become active, a new number wouldn't be assigned.
But that would give the person seniority based on when they activated their free account.
    Right but only once activated.
If this is correct, that would mean hypothetically someone could have signed up for a free account in 2003 and become a paid member for the first time on January 23rd and they would have the same seating priority on this tour as someone who has paid annual dues for 15 years. I could be wrong, but almost positive that a free account holder who decides to become a paid member gets a new number just the same as when someone's membership lapses and they rejoin.
Whether you believe it or not I'm not here to debate, just repeating what 10C has already confirmed. The situation you describe is extremely unlikely so in that sense the impact would be virtually nil if it were to happen.
To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

"Me knowing the truth, I can not concur."

I'm likely moving to the Bay Area in the Fall, from the northeast, so I found this pretty interesting. Was thinking maybe I'd get more PJ opportunities on the West coast but I guess not.
