Simplified, it is a DSUS and hammers on to a D then Csus2 then to a Bm#5 to a A5. Then the second part is E5, then C then E5 then A5, then he goes back to the above comment. The solo part can be done in the d minor pentatonic scale. Then little thing that sounds like the ending of "black", all he is doing on the G string is hitting the 5th fret then 7th fret, then a full bend to the 9th and back to the 7th fret to the 5th fret, then 4th fret.

Fun Fact, this was actually a song minus the words from The Rockfords. (Mike Mcready side project) Vedder didn't know the lyrics. So he Improv it. Thats why it never made it on an album.

My favorite era of the band. It was still new to them, there was no YouTube so you could take chances on stage, they experimented more, etc...

Listened to both sides this morning.  Can't remember if i ever really paid attention to side 2 before today.  Great performance.  I probably skip over this one because it's a 10" and so isn't with all my other singles.  It definitely needs more attention.  There is a lot of muted energy happening on side 1, and tons of RAW on side 2.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned that clearly there appear to be some studio efforts at this song.  See Lost Dogs right side of tape shelf.

The music as pointed out, ultimately was released by the Rockfords, The Rockfords, as the track Distress

Naturally, here are a lot of pics of Pearl Jam, with the Rockfords song Distress...

I am sure since this thread is so old, that everyone does know that this is a PJ cover of a Beatles song...  Just wanted to throw that out in case anyone wanted a tab, etc.

It's actually the other way around. PJ first played it in 1995, and then The Rockfords released it in 2000.

The Lyrics are NOT the same as the Rockfords tune at all though.  It is kind of like, Times of Trouble/Footsteps, same music, different lyrics.

Regardless of when it was released, wasn't this written by Mike/The Rockfords and Ed put his own lyrics to it? or did PJ write it and give it to the Rockfords?

Mike wrote the music, at the least the basic guitar parts, the Rockfords were not formed until late 1999.  This was originally a PJ track, musically, that never saw the light of day.  But again, there is at least visually, some evidence that PJ tracked this in the studio.

I think you are confusing this with "I've Just Seen a Face" which Ed does a brief snippet of a cappela at the same show.

We don't, that is why I said some evidence, not clear and decisive fact.  This plus the information compiled here on Pearl Jam Online under No Code sessions and Yield Sessions, there is notation that Falling Down was tracked during No Code sessions, and Fallen (aka Falling Down) was tracked during Yield.

    http://www.pearljamonline.it/rs.htm

Is that certain, I do not know, but it certainly has a lot of points of correlation.  I can't think of any other songs pre-2003 that would be under the title Fallen.
