A remarkably cool score from a few days ago- Django Reinhardt, Three Fingered Lightning, 10" vinyl, Pathe Vox. $3.00 from a local thrift store.  The record has some audible scratches and slight warp but generally quite good sounding. The cover is shelf worn but not badly (not quite as good as this photo from Discogs):

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Another super cool score from local thrift store, also $3.00  Lots of shallow scratches and some surface noise but decent sounding and the cover is immaculate.  Dick Dale and his Del Tones, Surfer's Choice:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

I wasn't happy with Binaural.  Let me know what you both think please.

What didn't you like? Did you listen to it through headphones?

Sadly, Binaural is one of my least favorite album for two reasons:  First, because I actually don't care much for the songs (they're not bad- they just don't quite do it for me) and second (possibly somewhat a cause of the first reason) because I don't have the proper equipment and won't spend the money to acquire it for one album alone.

Here's what Wikipedia says regarding binaural playback:

Once recorded, the binaural effect can be reproduced using headphones. It does not work with mono playback; nor does it work while using loudspeaker units, as the acoustics of this arrangement distort the channel separation via natural crosstalk (an approximation can be obtained if the listening environment is carefully designed by employing expensive crosstalk cancellation equipment.)

Any set of headphones that provides good right and left channel isolation is sufficient to hear the immersive effects of the recording. Several high-end head set manufacturers have created some units specifically for the playback of binaural. It is also found that even normal headphones suffer from poor externalization, especially if the headphone completely blocks the ear from outside. A better design for externalization found in experiments is the open-ear one, where the drivers are sitting in front of the pinnae with the ear canal connected to the air. The hypothesis is that when the ear canal is completely blocked, the radiation impedance seen from the eardrum to the outside has been altered, which negatively affects externalization

It sounded muddled to me.  No with headphones.  Just played on my system.

I like my OG cut of Binaural- probably the best piece of PJ wax I have.

Agreed, I have the Euro OG, sounds really good.. Some of these new reissues aren’t great, I got 2 Self-titled’s, both warped, can’t be bothered going back to try swap it for a third warped one..

These reissues spins every bit as good as the originals. Some differences, but the sound quality is there.

I think the OG are by Far superior to these reissues.
What they did to Inside Job is an outrage.
Poor Boom they all but omitted his contribution to this track.
You can barely hear his piano.
Binaural reissue sounds muffled I agree.
If I would’ve known I would have just stuck to my originals.

Brendan OBrian can’t help but fuck shit up.
Maybe all this sounds alright on a shit USB turntable but I have beyond quality gear and my black Ortofon cartridge doesn’t like this crap

I don't think since I stopped buying CDs around 2000 I have ever received music at Christmas, it used to be easy just for someone to get me a CD I wanted but not so with vinyl.

    It's different.

Not my favorite Oh Sees album.

It's not hard like the previous ones have been.  It's more artistic.
