Iron and Wine - Such Great Heights - Recommendations?

LukinFanLukinFan Florida Posts: 28,996
I'm a big fan of this song (I believe it's a cover) - any other Iron and Wine fans? If I'm a fan of this song, which album should I checkout first?

Huge Iron and Wine fan. You can't really go wrong with any of the records really. But if I had to pick one , id probably opt for "Our Endless Numbered Days" . Such Great Heights is a cover of a 'Postal Service' track ! Enjoy

Get them ALL!! I'll second Endless Numbered Days, but really, his whole catalogue is pretty brilliant. Around the Well is a double disc filled with amazing gems from the early parts of his career, so grab that one next. (Such Great Heights is on there, so is Trapeze Swinger). Shepard's Dog is a personal favorite, and so is Kiss Each other Clean. You really can't go wrong!
If I knew where it was, I would take you there....

Thank you! I'll start with "Our Endless..." and then go with "Around the Well". How's his new one?

Honestly, it's my least favorite. He's really grown as an artist, and has no problem experimenting with new styles, so I think I still need to let it grow on me some more. I've caught him on tour every year he's come through Atlanta since 07, and I can say that the new songs translated beautifully live, but they just left me wanting something more off the album. Winter Prayers is my favorite song off Ghost on Ghost; I just wish they all sounded more like it! So, so devastatingly lovely.

Beast Epic is my album of the year. I haven't stopped playing it since it came out.

Archives volume 4 is great too. It's the acoustic versions of some of the Shepherd's Dog tracks
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

As everyone says, they are all great. Even Around the Well but my personal favourite is In the Reins with Calexico.
