I've seen the Union Jack co-opted by punk rock acts for as long as I've know what punk rock was. Are there Brits running around trying to generate faux outrage about it?

So disrespectful. I’m about done with this band.

    Just kidding.

    But not really.

I want an Aussie flag with all the stars replaced by hammer and sickles and the union jack replaced by the stickman logo.

I suppose some would call this disrespectful but Abbie Hoffman cared more about this country than a lot of our elected officials do today.

Abbey Hoffman used to get his ass handed to him on a daily basis when he wore that shirt.  Back then it was very offensive to do that @brianlux

Funny I was just mentioning him to my sister and his portrayal in Forrest Gump.

It's either been a long time since I've seen it or my memory isn't so good anymore (don't answer that, haha!) but I don't remember anything about Abbey Hoffman in "Forrest Gump".

Not saying you should, but to throw it out there...take a deep breath, think it through, try not to jump to conclusions (initial post didn't even get what the reasoning behind the art was, but ready to bail).

Do what you need to...just hope you can treat this band, along with others, with the same open-mindedness as you would wish for yourself.

Lol, you take me way to seriously.
I'm not outraged or pissed off not at all.  I'm still a PJ fan for life (got my Wrigley Field bootlegs on the way finally, waiting for them to announce some US tour dates Maybe in 2018) just thought this would be a fun topic for a Saturday evening.  I'm not nearly as wacky or outraged as I made myself out to be.  I have kind of a dry sense of humor I guess.  And if this topic caused the flags to sell out quicker than they would have, that's great.
    nice backpeddle.

"I'm about done with this band of 26 years". yeah, that's hilarious. surely meant in jest.

    surely.

I'm not outraged.  I'm not going to boycott the band or anything.
But this flag that they created is classless and disrespectful.
I don't care what cause this is for, subtracting 15 stars, using a lighter blue and adding black stripes to the American flag is totally disrespectful to the United States.
Would you do this to the Canadian flag?
Take it & Make the Maple Leaf light blue & add black vertical stripes next to the red vertical stripes and slap a banner across the bottom saying Pearl Jam Seattle Washington.
Would you do this to Japan's Rising Sun flag?  Put a light blue dot In the center of the red crimson disc so that it looks like a target, or would you add a yellow and light blue Ribbon around the red crimson disc and slap the banner across the bottom Pearl Jam Seattle Washington?
The answer to these two questions is no they would not do that because it would be disrespected to those countries, and those countries flags.
Only to the United States flag is this looked upon as cool and artistic in some circles.  To me it is the same as the NFL players who stand for the Mexican national anthem and then a sit for ours.  Stand for the British national anthem, and then sit for ours.
Why is it the lefties and hippies love, adore, and respect every Nation on this planet except our own United States?
I have seen countless iterations of the canadian flag. substitute the maple leaf with a pot leaf, Gord Downie, the Headstones logo, etc etc.

    Guess what? no one cares.
    Darwinspeed, all.

Is this message board the only place you can go where you feel relevant & important?  Seems like you pour a lot of time and effort into this.  And it's ultra fun & motivating for you to cherry pick things people say and then you get to indulge in some intellectual freelance writing.

typical. "I say something inflammatory and/or whining and then I redact it saying i was kidding then I continue whining and then I blame liberals for attacking what I say because I can't decide what my position is and then say something childish about them".

it's the same thing every time.

I'm impressed that this started out with "What communist designed this flag."  There's something nostalgic about it.  And like a comfy old shirt, something warm and fuzzy about blaming everything on the commies.  Ah, the good old daze.  We weren't always warm but we were frequently fuzzy.

While we're at it, let's bring back the term "pinko".  I always thought that was kinda funny when old guys with buzz cuts would puff up and get red in the face and curse, "Goddamn pinkos!"
