House Votes Down Trump Impeachment Resolution
But 58 Democrats voted for impeachment.

WASHINGTON ― Fifty-eight House Democrats voted to advance the impeachment of President Donald Trump on Wednesday, in direct defiance of the pleas of House Democratic leaders earlier in the day.

A vote to table the impeachment resolution was agreed to 368-58, with four Democrats voting present and 126 other Democrats voting with Republicans to kill the resolution.

It may seem like this was an overwhelming confirmation of Trump ― and it was, in the sense that no Republican voted to advance impeachment and more than two-thirds of Democrats joined their GOP colleagues ― but 58 Democratic votes is still a significant statement on impeachment.

The vote was forced by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who introduced articles of impeachment describing Trump as a bigot who incites hate and has demeaned the presidency.

"Donald John Trump, by causing such harm to the society of the United States is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office," Green said on the House floor as he introduced the articles.

Not quite the same nor does it carry the same cache as obstruction of justice, money laundering, tax evasion, witness intimidation and tampering, destruction of evidence, colluding with a hostile foreign power to influence an election and undermine democracy, violation of the Emoluments Clause and violations of the RICO statute. It'll be a completely different vote when Mueller issues his final report and all of the indictments have been handed down. Particularly in 2019.

  • It must all be true then, right? I mean, once it reaches conspiracy status, its all true. How else do we explain what we know now versus 10 or 11 months ago and that there's not one shred of evidence that Trump or his campaign had any dealings with Russia, Russia, Russia? Remember, "there's nothing to hide," "Trump doesn't know any Russians," and "there was no collusion with Russia."

Oh, and any one of the eight potential charges are impeachable. Any odds on how many of them come to fruition?

 Okay, I TOTALLY get the sentiment and I don't even think of it as an overreaction at all, but that is still hilarious.
Yeah, that clip will never stop being funny. I get it that it is bad that an unemployed circus clown was elected POTUS, but I don't display that kind of reaction unless I see a family member get run over by a bus or my home planet of Alderaan is destroyed by the Death Star. Bad times for that person until at least 2020. Every day just must be a bummer.

What a bunch of fucking wimps.
I can't profess to know much about the impeachment process, but they all probably knew, at this juncture anyway, that impeachment would never stick. it would be a waste of time and tax payer's money. do it when they have something concrete.

even if something concrete did surface it would unlikely be anything Russia Russia Russia related or election related. based on what has turned up so far whatever it is will be 6 ways of separation something or other from 15 years ago.
problem now is that the gop are now calling for a special counsel to investigate the special counsel.

well of course they are. they wouldn't be doing that if they had nothing to hide or if there was nothing to this investigation.

What a bunch of fucking wimps.
I can't profess to know much about the impeachment process, but they all probably knew, at this juncture anyway, that impeachment would never stick. it would be a waste of time and tax payer's money. do it when they have something concrete.
even if something concrete did surface it would unlikely be anything Russia Russia Russia related or election related. based on what has turned up so far whatever it is will be 6 ways of separation something or other from 15 years ago.
problem now is that the gop are now calling for a special counsel to investigate the special counsel.
it's a glorious time to be alive!

mueller has requested trump's finances. don't be so quick to assume they won't find anything election related. it's still very early.
that has been disputed by trumps attorney and retracted by Bloomberg
Spin, spin, 3D d'ing. Must be some news about to drop today. Or is it another shoe? Its not the crime, its the cover up of the crime.

The point was to get people on record.  58 is a starting point.  As things get worse for tRump, and they will, that number will only go up.
but how many times are they going to take this to a vote before they start getting complacent? I feel it cheapens the process every time they throw a dart into the dark.
    hopefully only twice

I think the democrats are huge wusses for not doing it anyway. They still wouldn't have won that vote - I never once suspected they might have. But I think even though they knew they'd lose it because of the republicans, every single vote for it strengthens the message. I'm just mad it was so lopsided.

It seems like the world is giving Trump an easy way out of the presidency right now, an easy way to write it in the history books without completely ruining his reputation and credibility.  Both Democrats and Republicans are having trouble with him.  Now, its seems though maybe most of the Republicans are on the same page with him, but now this whole Roy Moore and Flynn thing are putting a hole in their plans, just when their steam was picking up?   I don't know, seems like that's the only explanation for why they would back Moore.  They want all these inconvenient truths and facts to go away because they haven't had their full four years yet in the oval office.   I think, in the grand scheme of things, they fear that the Democrats are stronger and more progressive.  They know we're a threat.   I think the Republicans are just holding on for dear life.  And yes, I realize it shouldn't be that way.  It should be more bipartisan and peaceful.  Maybe if they could meet halfway and negotiate on more things like they were doing for awhile there?   I think it starts in smaller communities too.  I'm guilty as well of not speaking my full mind to Republicans around me.

its a strategic decision and i support those who voted against.  there is a reason pelosi and schumer wont consider talk of impeachment publicly

if the vote shows legitimate numbers and split on D and R.  it corners the Rs, creates a boogeyman, and will result in a bigger showing at the 2018 midterms.   we know how trump and his supporters love boogeymen.  the narrative in every battleground will be: not only give our representative to the dems, it will be congress, and they are actively looking to boot our republican president and that may cost 1 or 2 supreme court justices... that will likely drive disenfranchised republicans back to the polls.

win the midterms, take congress... then they can pounce on trump if necessary, whether its mueller investigation stuff or any self inflicted fuckups.
this impeachment talk and voting now is a waste of time and counterproductive.  grandstanding

its similar to how obama and the clintons have avoided sparring with trump to the point of near silence.  obama talks, we all agree with hom, but he hands trump an adversary to rile everyone up in his speeches.  it is something to campaign against.  without anything to campaign against, trump is awful as a candidate.  leave him in his echo chamber

I don't believe so. I just would have liked to have seen more Dems than that vote for it... but I think that because I think the reasons laid out in this first try and perfectly reasonable and provable. Unfortunately, the rules governing this issue are fucking stupid.
