    It's a box.
    And a number.
    It means nothing.
It's the music inside that's important - unless your intent was to flip it from the get go.
I don't even see why it would affect the flippers. Why would it affect the price? Has anyone expressed discontent about this? What difference does it make? Will collectors actually say "oh no thanks, the number is higher than 500."? Will the over-500 boxes actually have a lower dollar value in the secondary market??
I'm sure someone will get creative with it...

"You're bidding on one of the SUPER ULTRA RARE #500+ MIS-NUMBERED VARIANT LIMITED EDITION BOX SETS!!! LESS THAN 100 WENT TO MARKET!!!!!!!"
This will definitely happen. They will become "must have" numbers. :|

Ten Club should ask for the COA papers numbered 500-599 be returned and exchanged for a COA paper numbered 1-500. Then have the band sign the exchanged 100 for those “unlucky ones” when sent back. :)

Certainly not as bad as the Death Cab for Cutie Box set fiasco.
Or the NIN halo I-IV shitshow, which Concord Bicycle used as an opportunity to dump the widely known defective, unplayable pressings of Pretty Hate Machine onto fans during the hype of RSD.

Shitty business. Its 25th anniversary Out of Time release was awful as well. I immediately returned mine and bought the EU pressing, which was much better.

Thanks for the info Santos.  It’s all good.  Who gives a dam about the numbering issue.  Seems like an honest mistake that is not detrimental to anyone with no overt greed intent.  Keep bringing us vinyl (or vinyls to piss off PJSoul  )

I read this as 1-500 were supposed to be sales on here. 501-600 were supposed to be kept back for the band but somehow got sold as well and were shipped out.
Yea, maybe. So 600 were sold? They didn't keep any back for label and band use? What numbers are they auctioning off?
Still 500 sold. 100 saved for the band. But all 600 numbered.

Still weird saying 500 will be sold as it will obviously read as "500 made/produced", but then keep 100 on top of that (20% extra).

    Sounds fishy and dishonest.

Why not say that 600 are produced, but still only sell 500 to the public. or produce 500 if you want a nice round number, but only sell 400.

Bingo, I could write a long comment which is epitomized in 9 words here.

Everyone who got this set I would hope are delighted with what they received and not going to worry about the existence of a few more sets having been made, in all reality it just doesnt matter. Its nice to read the explanation and for it to be officially addressed, but I know for one im not remotely concerned and am thrilled to have this item on the way to me

This was not advertised as a 1 out 500. People bought this either not knowing about the COA or going off a small picture that was on the item page. Once it was sold out it was officially disclosed as a 1 out of 500. While it is weird as to how this all happened and odd that numbers above 500 are being distributed does it really change things from the point that you made the purchase?

You are the exception Paul. A relaxed, reasonable collector. Ironically though, it is the collector contingent out there that drives all the angst on getting something limited (for all the reasons people want limited ed. stuff).

Cheers Chris, that is a good point you make. I think it very much depends on why people collect. Some may collect to have an item no one else has, and for the bragging rights and so forth. Some will collect things as they perceive them to be investments. Others will collect because they enjoy it for themselves, and its as simple as that. I have never been concerned with the value of the bits I have accumulated over the years, its just irrelevant to me - its always just nice to add something new.

The numbering of this item is really nothing of importance to me, its a nice part of the package I guess, but the scarcity was not a driving factor in my ordering it. I just thought it would sit nice next to the other boxes for the deluxe sets......LOL

I think that is pretty normal. There's always a surplus for the band, errors, whatever.

What is the difference if there is 500 or 600?  How does that diminish the experience of owning this?  I really don't get it (and I am a collector).

Maybe some are just not happy they they got exactly what was advertised?
Aside from from being opened and some not, it sounds exactly what I would have expected. Mostly not originals, but what was available (a mix of OPs for the last 2, and re-releases for the rest). Anyone interested in buying this would already have most if not all of them already. So the number is just something to complain about when they realized Boom wasn't going to deliver it.
And they still only sold 500 from all accounts, Santos confirmed that as well. Its just the ones held back were random ones and not # 501-600 like originally planned.

Maybe that NIN thing happened because they know a large number of people never actually listen to the records they buy? Haha!

    That's probably right!
I'm not even sure that boxset was an official NIN / Reznor-endorsed release.

It was not an official Reznor-endorsed release.

I sold mine on eBay with all the crappy replacements Concord Bicycle sent me, which were just more of the same defective 2011 pressings, with the exception of one obviously used copy of the 2010 remaster that Trent absolutely loathed. I mentioned that they were unplayable in item the description, and someone still bought the lot. So Chris might be onto something.

Just a quick question and I'm sorry if it's already been answered here:
Has anyone received a box numbered between 1/500 - 100/500?
I'm just curious if Ten Club did retain the first 100 numbered sets.
    Thank you in advance!

I don’t think most people have received their sets yet to know. I’ve only seen like 5-6 numbers so far. Mine won’t arrive until tomorrow.
