As deplorable as his actions were, I will give him some credit for owning what he’s done, in contrast to many/most of those facing similar allegations. (Sorry, don’t know how to post links on my phone, but his statement is breaking news right now.)

Some credit, yes, but not much. He's owning what he did only because he was outed. Let's not praise him too much.

Not to mention that at the bottom of the article, it says that he denied the allegations last year. I wouldn't exactly call it courageous to wait until you can no longer defend yourself, before admitting your wrongdoings.

well, he could have continued to deny it. but he didn't. and he did so quite candidly. anyone in his situation, i would imagine, would deny the allegations in hopes they'd go away. that's not abnormal. (the action are-I hope-but denial is not).

it's still fucking gross, but he has handled it the best out of the lot so far.

Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m by no means praising him, just giving him a smidgen of credit for (mostly?) owning his actions. He never should have put himself in this position, as I firmly believe no man worthy of his word and his balls does what he did.

I think we've allowed context to play too much of a part in determining if what happened was criminal. The only difference is which situations will realistically result in charges if prosecution was attempted. If I'm at a college keg party and some perv drunk takes out his cock to wank in front of people, very unlikely that ever gets regarded as a crime just because of the culture that is associated with college parties. Outside of that, I don't think there would ever be a case that I couldn't see turning in to something more if pressed. It's a violation upon anyone who was unwillingly exposed to the act and behavior.

Maybe some of you have watched too much porn and it's permeated your sense of sexual acceptability. Are you truly considering how this situation plays out? A male you have no sexual interest in or relationship with, strips naked and begins stroking himself without your approval. You observe him staring at you while he performs the act, most likely making some sort of sexual noises (whether from his body or mouth) while the sweat beads up and he gets fully aroused. You're going to laugh at that? I guess good for you, but understand that a lot of women, and men, are not going to and will be traumatized because that image will remain with them as well as the sounds, smells and every other sensory memory (and it's those that stick with you most).

I am guessing those that don't find this traumatizing have never worked with victims of sexual misconduct or behavior. I believe PJ Soul works at a college of some type so I am surprised by the response because this type of behavior ties in very closely to VAWA and the Title IX provisions that we're pushed for under Obama. I know, Canada maybe isn't as restrictive on this stuff, but there has been a cultural shift going on for the past 7 years that has focused a lot on changing and correcting behavior like this.

People like this aren't normal and shouldn't be given a pass at any point! It doesn't matter when it happened. The fact that people just laughed at them and walked away just reinforced with them that it wasn't a big deal and that's what's fucked up.
I didn't say it was normal, nor that it should be given a pass. I get the feeling I have been unable to express myself clearly if that is the impression I've made. Oh, and I have not been overexposed to porn, lol. I'm pretty sure I have had a normal exposure to porn for my gender and age group. No seriously... I actually do not favour porn, for several reasons.

Your comment about where I work is very strange and disturbing to me. What exactly are you trying to say?? That I support rape culture?!

FYI, I have been a victim myself, many times, so yeah, I guess I understand it pretty fucking well.

Louis, Spacey, Weinstein, etc., etc. What's the matter with these people?  Too much fame, too much power, too much b.s.  Waste of time, the whole bunch.

I know this is late, but am I the only one who cares less about deviance and disgusting behaviour from artists than others like politicians?  Obviously, wrong is wrong, and victims are victims either way, but I don't feel as betrayed on a personal level.

I guess I just am able to separate the art and ent from the artist and entertainer better than I am able to separate the behaviour of an official from their official business.

I agree there can be a difference. When people run on a platform that emphasizes their fitness for office based on so-called values and personal morality, and then turn out to have done what they supposedly stand against, then to me it's much more serious than an artist with no claim to moral superiority and, most importantly, no ability to adversely affect public policy.

I absolutely agree. Entertaining never made any promises to the public. They never asked for our trust. And they never claimed to or should be expected to work for our better good as a society. Politicians are supposed to do all of those things, and that is what our expectations should be when we vote for them. And if those aren't our expectations when we vote for them, and if we don't then hold them to it, then we're fucking idiots. We need to uphold higher standards for our politicians. Obviously a LOT of people are forgetting that right now, which is terribly sad and infuriating.

    LOL?
He would have just increased his chances dramatically to become the next Republican president.

Aziz Ansari on the pile now.
The lines are getting blurred in the reaction to his situation.
Ultimately, I think that's what society needs, but it's going to be a bumpy ride in the meantime.

This is what I mean when I say the lines are beginning to blur, she never differentiates bad sex from sexual assault, which is a crime, in a discussion specifically about sexual assault.

And I realize that what I'm saying has long been a talking point for rape apologists and scumbags, but I think we may actually be coming to that point.

been a couple good articles speaking to the ansari situation in The Atlantic. First one goes after "grace". After that though, 2 others speak to the issues raised in that particular scanario.

One aspect I havent heard spoken to yet about Ansari is it isnt out of the realm of possibility that her speaking to him about how SHE experienced that night and given his reported response at the time , could have led him to change his behavior in the months since that night. And his stance on Times Up is entirely appropriate and unhypocritical.

I also wonder to what degree the wine played its role in the actions of both. being under the influence DOES NOT absolve anyone for any action but it does mitigate things somewhat and could partially explain the missed cues, misunderstood cues and lack of clear enough communication to the point said communication is clearly shown to be understood.
