Why not!  One of the greatest American bands ever deserves it's own thread (if there already is one, I couldn't find it, my apologies!)

Just out and absolutely smokin', The Replacements, For Sale: Live at Maxwell's 1986 is a must have for 'Mats fan!

Certainly one of the drunkest bands ever.  ;)  I love the 'Mats.

True, they were heavy into drinking and a lot of live bootlegged stuff sounds like it-- -- which is why I was a bit wary of the Maxwell's album.

But no, this a GREAT live Replacements album.  There are a few sloppy numbers here but otherwise, this is four sides (on the record LP) of the band playing tight, energized music.  And though somewhat late in his career with the band, guitarist Bob Stinson is at times simply stunning.

I am absolutely head-over-heals in love with this record!

I had one chance to see the original line up when they played in San Francisco (I believe it was at The Mabuhay Gardens but I'm not sure now.  Something came up and I didn't make it.  Bummer!

Their nickname (given by Minneapolis locals back in their early days) was "Placemats" which got shortened to "'Mats".  There were also a few people who referred to Paul Westerberg as "Westy" but according to some of the folks on the Westerberg fan site, Man Without Ties, that's a big non-no.  Finicky fans!

Oh yes, that's a great version of the song.  Right up there with the SNL version (I wish I could find this video with the angular nonsense):

LOL,  Somewhat sorry to say I no longer have a store front window (my inventory is at home these days) but we did have a copy of this at my wife's used bookstore... but not for long.

I totally agreed though- this one's a must have for any 'Mats fan!  It kept me up late a couple nights the first read through.  Great stuff!

Wow, look at those guys.  Just kids!
