That stat they just said of the 23 teams since the Wild Card to have 100 win seasons. Only 3 won the World Series. And 2 were the Yankees

Whoever is managing this team next year if Girardi decides to not come back. Will be the next Torre or Kerr. I didn't come up with that. But it's true

    From the postgame notes

    THE NEW YORK YANKEES

    ·          Completed their comeback from a two games-to-none deficit with their 5-2 road victory tonight…marked their first two-game comeback in a Postseason series since doing so in the 2001 ALDS vs. Oakland (trailed 2-0, won in five games).

    ·          Won their second-ever Postseason series against Cleveland (also prevailed in the 1998 ALCS)…the two clubs have now split their four meetings in Postseason play, and have gone 10-10 in the individual contests.

    ·          Received 4.2 scoreless innings from their bullpen tonight…over the course of this series, Yankees relievers posted a 2.20 ERA (7ER/28.2IP) and held Indians batters to a .153 (15-for-98) average and struck out 13.2 batters-per-9.0IP.

    ·          Connected for a pair of home runs in tonight’s game after leading the Majors with 241 during the 2017 regular season.

    CC SABATHIA

    ·          Did not factor into the decision, allowing a pair of runs on 5 hits over 4.1 innings…was relieved by Robertson with one out in the 5th inning…Sabathia became the first pitcher in MLB Postseason history with 9-or-more strikeouts in fewer than 5.0 innings pitched (ESPN Stats & Info)…became the third pitcher in Yankees Postseason history to record at least 9 K's without issuing a walk, as Sabathia joined Hiroki Kuroda in 2012 ALCS Game 2 vs. Detroit (11K, 0BB, in a 3-0 loss) & Roger Clemens in 2000 World Series Game 2 (9K, 0BB, in a 6-5 win).

    ·          Made his fifth career Postseason start at Progressive Field, passing Jaret Wright for 4th-most all-time behind Nagy (7), Hershiser & Kluber (6 each).

    DIDI GREGORIUS

    ·          Recorded the 24th multi-homer game in Yankees Postseason history, 4th in the ALDS - first in either since Raul Ibañez in 2012 ALDS Game 3 vs. Baltimore (Oct. 10)…third player in Yankees Postseason history with multiple homers in a winner-take-all game, joining Yogi Berra in 1956 World Series Game 7 at Brooklyn and Jason Giambi in 2003 ALCS Game 7 vs. Boston…both home runs tonight came against Kluber…Gregorius gave New York-AL a 1-0 lead with a two-out solo home run in the 1st inning and made it 3-0 with a one-out, two-run shot in the 3rd.

    ·          Gregorius became the first shortstop in Yankees Postseason history with a multi-homer game, first infielder since 3B Scott Brosius in 1998 World Series Game 3 at San Diego…he is the seventh shortstop with a multi-homer game in MLB Postseason history, joining Rico Petrocelli (BOS) in 1967 World Series Game 6 vs. StL, Alan Trammell (DET) in 1984 World Series Game 4 vs. SD, Rich Aurilia (SF) in 2002 NLCS Game 2 at StL, Alex Gonzalez (ChC) in 2003 NLCS Game 2 vs. FLA, Jhonny Peralta (DET) in 2012 ALCS Game 4 vs. NYY & Carlos Correa (HOU) in 2015 ALDS Game 4 vs. KC.

    ·          Marked his second and third home runs of the 2017 Postseason (also his PS career), as he also connected for a 3-run homer in the Oct. 3 A.L. Wild Card Game vs. Minnesota off Ervin Santana…Gregorius becomes just the third Yankees shortstop to hit multiple home runs in the same Postseason, joining Phil Linz (1964) and Derek Jeter (1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005 & 2009)…also moves into a tie with Linz and Phil Rizzuto for 2nd-most Postseason homers all-time by a Yankees shortstop, trailing only Jeter (20)…according to ESPN Stats & Info, Gregorius is the third player in MLB history to homer in multiple winner-take-all games in the same Postseason, joining Dwight Evans (1986) & Ben Oglivie (1982).

    BRETT GARDNER

    ·          Went 3-for-4 on the evening with three singles, a run scored and an RBI…marked his first career three-hit game in the Postseason (7th multi-hit game overall)…extended the Yankees’ lead to 5-2 and capped a 12-pitch at-bat with a single in the top of the 9th inning that scored a pair of runs (one RBI, one run scored on a throwing error by Cleveland rightfielder Jay Bruce).

    ·          Gardner and Gregorius each contributed three-hit efforts tonight, marking the first three-hit games by Yankee batters in a winner-take-all contest since Jason Giambi, Derek Jeter and Gary Sheffield all did so in a Game 5 loss at Los Angeles-AL in the 2005 ALDS.

    AARON HICKS

    ·          Was 1-for-3 with a single and run scored in the 9th inning…Hicks has now hit safely in all six of his Postseason games this season (also first six Postseason games of his career), batting .318 (7-for-22) thus far with a homer, a double, three runs scored and five RBI.

    ·          Hicks’ six-game hitting streak to begin his Postseason career is the longest by a Yankees batter since Derek Jeter hit safely in each of his first nine Postseason games during the 1996 playoffs.

    DAVID ROBERTSON

Earned the win in relief as he tossed 2.2 hitless innings in relief of Sabathia…was just his third career appearance of at least 2.2IP (reg. and postseason), with all three coming within the last 31 days (also 9/11/17 at Tampa Bay played at Citi Field-2.2IP; and the 2017 AL Wild Card Game vs. Minnesota-3.1IP).
