He was rushed to the hospital with full cardiac arrest. He had no brain activity and was taken off life support

    I'm not seeing that he has passed away but that he is off life support. Probably a matter of time though.

    1:35 PM PT -- Sources tell us at 10:30 Monday morning a chaplain was called to Tom's hospital room. We're told the family has a do not resuscitate order on Tom. The singer is not expected to live much longer ... but at this time, he's still clinging to life. A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer's death is inaccurate.

    I only just heard about half an hour ago.  Not meaning to be melodramatic but it was like a punch in the gut. My immediate reaction was shock, a moan and then tears.  Petty was close to my age-- only months apart.  Suddenly 66 feels a lot older. 

    Rest in Peace, Tom Petty.  Thank you for so much great music.

    So many of our rock stars are dying in their 50s and 60s lately. You'd think we'd have them for another 20 or 30 years

    I was at the Hollywood Bowl for his last concert on Monday.  Never would have thought it would be his last show.

    After Bowie and Prince a friend said to me that a lot of our icons are going to start dropping more frequently now due to their heavy partying lifestyles when they were younger. And some who continue to have dangerous vices.

    That being said, it's time we start worrying about how we are going to leave the planet for Keith Richards.
