Chris Cornell/Soundgarden Cover for next Tour?

I think its pretty likely that on the next tour, PJ will pull out a CC or SG song. I also think its likely it wont be 'Like a Stone' like every other band, so what would you guys like to see?

I think they would crush 'My Wave' off Superunknown.

If they do, I think the natural fit would be something from Temple of the Dog.  The bands already there, just Ed singing.  They already do Hunger Strike, but may they pull out something like Call me a Dog or maybe a Footsteps/Times of Trouble medley.

yeah, I don't think they'll do anything more than what they already do.

It could make them all pretty sad on stage... not sure how it would go.

Ty Cobb? :)   I don't think you can get sad while playing Ty Cobb.

Just my two cents, don't see them doing this.
His eminence has yet to show.

Time and place. I would bet something like this happens eventually but not soon and not often.

EDIT: Maybe the next time they play Seattle.

10 years for the band to acknowledge MLB at a show in song form.

this is not a deliberate knock on eddie but they can't crush superunknown because eddie just can't sing any of it

My guess is that they play some sort of other non-Chris cover as a blantant tribute, kind of like Ed playing "I'm So Tired" at his recent shows.

And that's part of why this may not happen soon, often or even ever.

That said, MLB isn't quite the same thing. Ed never met Andy. Dave A. never met Andy (I don't think - I don't know about Krusen, Chamberlain or Jack Irons.) Stone and Jeff were trying to start a new thing. Everyone in the band currently knew Chris well.

Incessant Mace opener at the next show for a fallen comrade. Chris Cornell would have approved.

Or Habit > Outshined for starters.

4th Of July is one Ed would sound really good doing. Maybe to open the first encore.

I think mccready brings people to life that you can't actually physically be with especially on reach down.
    In time we reunite
    See you there.
  • Maybe they could do an instrumental version of a Soundgarden song.

I kind of thought Say Hello 2 Heaven would have been the perfect song. I know it's about Andy, but it took on a new meaning with Chris' passing.

I find that when he means it, Eddie can sing with so much energy it sounds amazing, see 'Aint Talkin Bout Love' from Hartford 2010.

I hope they wouldn't do a slow song. My Wave would be a less painful cry...but still cathartic.

Hunger strike with the crowd singing CC's part if I had to guess.

  • I had been laying off this thread, tempting as it is, to avoid just getting sad thinking about it. There aren't a lot of Cornell songs that Ed could pull off just because Cornell's range was so lofty on the high end. I agree that this is unlikely, especially in the short-term. More likely for it to be an indirect tribute, maybe Light Years or Black.

If they did this, there's no chance it would be an Audioslave song. I feel like if they do it, it will be Matt's call and why wouldn't they choose a SG or Temple song?

Thinking about Ty Cobb, though... That would be incredible! I hadn't thought of that one, but it is absolutely the type of song that they could and should do. It's probably the right 'spirit' of a song choice , too.

  • I don't want to hear a SG cover, sorry. Hope it never happens.
