actually got a ticket.  The guy who runs the local indie/alternative online station had some tix for sale for $50 each so.  and the money goes to them to help fund the station so that's cool.

did they play the whole show or just the album?  They played four songs after that.  It was pretty cool.  New shit sounded awesome.  Loved Turtleneck, Empire Line  and  Sleep Well Beast

Looking through their past 5 shows or so they have actually already played every song off the new album before this show which i thought was kinda odd.

They played Sleep Well Beast in full, Green Gloves, Apartment Story, Fake Empire and ended with Terrible Love. We got everything you got.  Well, add in the pesky site crash.  My husband bootlegged it for me but missed the first song and a half because of the lack of connection. It's still up on the original live stream link.

DD, my husband and I were all trying to connect.  We kept getting an error. I was able to pull it up on my phone and listen. My husband was able to eventually connect.

I was just thrilled to hear it no matter how much or how little. But... It was wondrously awesome!  Excited to make the run to Detroit to see them next month!

Wtf is a flexi-single?? I've never even heard of that! Is it what it sounds like? I.e. a bendy 45?

I am so glad they put out a new album. It has made me remember to listen to their older stuff too. Boxer side 1 is incredible. High violet is a beast. Haven't even gotten into the new album too much because I'm revisiting the older stuff. So good.

I'm loving the new album so much!  I love the fact that they have evolved their sound and changed things up quite a bit, with the electronic beats, guitar solos, and a song (Turtleneck) that is almost verging on punk rock!  And another song (Sleep Well Beast) that is so abstract it almost sounds like it could be a Radiohead song.  All these things aren't particularly characteristic of their previous records.

But while evolving quite a bit, they have still managed to make the album sound unmistakably like The National, containing all the usual elements that make their music so great, such as the colourful drumming, beautiful piano parts, the mysterious but still relate-able lyrics, and of course Matt's great voice.

They've done well to change things up quite a bit, but still appeal to people who already love their music.  A great record!

Yeah, they used to at least cut them in a circle, now they don't even bother. They sound like crap and it's disturbing that there's a resurgence. If the music is that throwaway then don't release it.
