4/20/02- "All You Fools, Who Sing Just Like Him". Who is Ed referring to?

HughFreakingDillonHughFreakingDillon Winnipeg Posts: 35,833
in this Layne tribute, who is Ed talking about? I kind of assumed it might be Scott Stapp, but he always got compared to Ed. Maybe Travis Meeks (Days of the New)?

forgot the obvious......Sully Erna. Band name from a AIC song, stole their logo.........even did an acoustic EP like Sap. I actually liked it when it came out, but it just seemed so contrived.

I always figured days of the new

i wish 4/20/02 was a better tribute but the "in the moment" feel it captures is incredible

    edit--forgot godsmack existed

I think he's referring to addicts and is calling them losers. Sings is a metaphor not literal.

I believe during the promotional work for Lost Dogs, that it was heavily suggested that it was intended for the Godsmack singer and not Scott Stapp- who got his lashing during Green Disease.

Yeah man. I'm trying to remember what show it was that it debuted at in 2003. I want to say it was in the southern midwest. Little Rock, OKC, Dallas. Not even sure those cities had shows but that's what's standing out to me.

    Wasn't he saying "G.R.E.E.D."?
3 Doors Down? Creed and Nickelback, for sure. Matchbox Twenty, defo. Theory Of A Dead Man? Candlebox? Collective Soul were bad at it. Puddle Of Mudd. Lifehouse. Godsmack, of course.
    Fuck, these bands suck.

I think you are all conflating some things.  The stowaway line is an allusion to people who try to speak for you and the use of any "c-r-e-e-d" was about religion, not about afterthought of the century band.

Ed sang at some shows in 2003:  "his band's called creed" in that stowaway section.  It was definitely a reference to the band Creed.

About a minute in: "This band's called Creed"

At the end is without question C-R-E-E-D

Well, there is really no disputing that, I had blacked that out.  I still think overall, the song and the line stow-away have nothing to do with this, it was just a riff in the moment.  I think this was perhaps around the same time that Scott Stapp was having his first break down and rambling stuff about Ed.  So in that light it would make sense.

But overall green disease is about something entirely different.
