What Do You Do For A Living?

I am bored at work, so I thought I'd start a thread to which most everyone can relate.

I am a CPA, specializing in entertainment.

What about you?

I often think there are so many folk I know from here who I count as really good friends but I have no idea what they do for a job. Haha. Anyway, I work in an office EA/PA/Office Admin/Office Manager/Contracts Admin etc depending on the month/year. I organise office shit for others who are better out doing what they do best basically.

    I'll be serious too...

I have been a resident advisor at a Job Corps training center, department manager of a college bookstore, used to sub and teach 5/6th grade, worked at our local health library before it moved out of town, was program assistant and tutor for Human Services at our local college, was a member of a use book co-op for four years.  I now own my own used book business (dealer sales, a few on-line sales and book fares), am a small-time vinyl record dealer and help my wife and her business partner in their bookstore (which is in its 34th year).

Looking at my work history list, I see I have also held 24 other jobs since my first one in high school.

I told my wife this evening that I'm thinking about trying something new.  Not sure what though.

I am currently a PM for a miscellaneous/ornamental metals installer.

Before that I traveled the world as a superintendent for a concrete company that specializes in building prisons.

In my younger age I was an Alaskan fisherman for a few years.

I'm a university administrator. It's a pretty good gig. Working on a university campus and being surrounded by youth and eccentric academics, in an environment that is so much about freedom of thought and expression (yes, that is still a real thing at most universities in Canada) is good for the soul.

Thanks. I appreciate that. It was a pretty drastic change for me. I used to have a company that repaired electronic equipment, both commercial and residential. I sold out, retired  (for two years) and was a stay at home dad. An opportunity to purchase a hospital for my wife arose and I jumped on it.

So far, it's been a very busy, productive experience. It can be very emotional too.

Nice!  Oh god, I miss working on campuses.  That's the best work environment!
