I love seeing local bands and living close to Minneapolis helps that a lot. The local music scene is awesome. Going to see a band called Friends Like These on Friday. Small club and it only is going to set me back 8 USD for a ticket.

tbh the music scene here in sydney has gone down the toilet somewhat in the past 20 odd years. there arent the venues available now that there used to be.back then it wouldnt be unusual for local bands(and by that i mean australian bands) to play 3 or 4 times at various venues around the city. and wed follow them around the city. now were lucky if a band plays a couple of times a year. also back then there was an attitude of proving yourself on the local circuit... a byproduct of which was you ended up being a tight well oiled rock machine. nowadays it just seems bands(not all bands tho) want to fly off to brooklyn or the UK first chance they get.

Venues in Melbourne have shut as well.
Sad when artists have no place to perform.

Agreed. I used to do the pub scene in Melbourne when I was younger. There were plenty of happening pubs back then. I used to go see bands like Inxs and Hunters and Collectors performing in pubs! Dont know what the pub scene is like now I dont follow it, but there dont seem to be as many. Just a few places around like the HiFi Bar, and that's only good if (a) there's a good band on there and (b) you feel like going all the way into the city.

That is a shame... Plenty of bars out here...

Most artists play at the many social clubs around here.

a lot of pubs have been given 'facelifts'. everytime i walk into one of those i feel like i dont belong. i dont go to pubs to sit on a fake leather banquette sipping lite boutique beers or glasses of chardonnay laughing too loudly as if i just heard the funniest thing EVER! and trying to look too cool for school. needless to say live bands at such establishments are a no no. dont know why though cause rarely do i drink more than when im listening to a band live.

Anyone heard of Mark Foster's "side project" with A-Trak & Kimbra? I just heard it today sounded decent. The song is called Warrior.

Digging the studio track, and didn't think I would! Saw Warrior live (minus A-Track), FtP brought Kimbra onstage (she was one of their openers) a couple weeks ago in Central Park. Sounded cool, but can't report much more than that on account of the HORRIBLE mix. All instruments were too low, and Mark's mic was WAY too low, was hard to loudly and clearly hear him for most of the show. Nevertheless they had a lot of energy live and I had fun. While 'Pumped Up Kicks' is definitely my least favorite song on that album, it turned out to be a highlight- it was threatening rain the whole time and finally POURED right before Pumped Up Kicks, their last song. Everyone was singing and dancing in the rain, which turned out to be a lot of fun and a memorable way to end it.

that's pretty cool. They're playing philly in a few days although i'm skipping it. I think you can find the studio version on Kimbra's latest album.
