The Doors Official Thread

I couldn't find a thread about The Doors, so I started one up. Next to PJ, they are my favorite band. Today is Robby Krieger's 71st birthday - and he's still playing!

Any other big Doors fans here?

Yep. My dad use to play their first album, all the time, when I was young. The Soft Parade is one of my favorite albums. The End is one of my favorite LSD tunes, from back in the day. I loved that song, while I was tripping! I also thought Val Kilmer played a great Jim Morrison.

  • Hell yes! They are my fourth favorite band, just behind The Stones , PJ and Nirvana. Unreal how much music these guys made in such a short while.

Question, you ever hear the post Morrison Doors? Other Voices and Full Circle have some pretty good gems. Personal favorite is "the peking king and the new York queen"

Thought I would mention since we are celebrating Robbie.

Same here. I've thought about checking out the post Morrison stuff, but never have. Is it all music - no lyrics?

  • There was a time when my friends and I jammed to the Doors hard.

Classics like Peace Frog were staples on our mixed tapes, but there was much more to the band outside of what might be considered their greatest hits (songs like the Changeling and Summers Almost Gone).

I rarely listen to them anymore, but out of respect they are on all my devices.

Love the Doors! And yes, Val killed it playing JM.

Kind of off subject but anyone heard the Doors tribute album called Stoned Emaculate? Great album by some great artists.

I was a huge fan of The Doors back when the movie first came out. Come to think of it, they were my favorite alongside PJ way back when. I should start listening to them and Pink Floyd again. In Concert was always one of my favorite live albums. The Celebration Of The Lizard blew me away, along with a few other songs on the Absolutely Live album.

I've got memories tied up with some friends that have since passed away, so for awhile it was painful to listen to PF and The Doors. Hopefully, enough time has passed and I can begin to enjoy these bands again. I definitely miss them.

I picked up The Doors self tilted on vinyl from Amazon for cheap yesterday ($12.32)

I had bought a used copy a few weeks ago and the sound quality was really bad, so I couldn't pass on this album.

Found this guy in the bins, cleaned it and played it tonight. Will probably break out one of Jim's poetry books and read a bit.
Huge Doors fan, I was introduced to them with the Oliver Stone movie and haven't looked back.

I need to get this on vinyl.

I'm a middle school English teacher, and every year when I teach poetry I always try to include at least one Morrison poem within the unit (along with some Ed or PJ poetry/songs).  The kids typically think it's strange (especially when I play "Horse Latitudes" for them) but as we break it down, most of them love it.

Found this at a vinyl convention a few years ago.  Super dangerous album, it always makes me drink large quantities of alcohol and act like an asshole.  But I always loved the album....  feel like it's abridged compared to the cd though, anyone knowing it's a shortened version?  Feel like there used to be more songs on the cd.

Had 5 groups on tapes that were always in my car in high school.

The Doors - Usually LA Woman and later The Best of The Doors
ACDC - Always Back in Black and then Who Made Who
Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits
    Motley Crue - Shout/Theater/Girls
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Different people in the car enjoyed different music & while I probably would have kept it at Metal, most others were not fans.  The Doors was a universally loved group and I could rock that to group satisfaction no matter what.
Both of my parents were big fans and I heard lots of The Doors during my formative years.
Ed singing with them for the R&RHoF was an huge early highlight for me.
