so I've owned this for quite a while but it's a pretty rare edition so I've never even touched the discs.  I finally bought the regular set this week so I could experience it.
Might be my favorite Live PJ release ever. They're on fire.  Ed's voice is terrific. Very tight sounding sets.  Severed Hand is so underrated and so underplayed

Any of you guys who made it to these shows consider yourselves lucky.

  • I still have a bit of sunburn and heatstroke from those shows!

They were amazing shows and times heatwave and all.  My 10c seats were amazing.  Opening w/ Severed Hand was a surreal experience.  I only hope Pearl Jam will play there again.  It will be amazing.  Nice post OP thanks for the trip down memory lane.

The intro to Severed Hand.  Was that a recording?  It's extra long like they're waiting for everyone to come on.  Either way it needs to open more shows.

Id love a bluray of these shows just for the visuals.  Incredible venue.

Aren't these CD's better quality than the rest of the boots?

I agree, really memorable shows. Accoustic set is a nice treat too

Think I was on a road trip when I first heard 6/23/06 come on the radio. The band coming out that hard, not letting up, with that setlist, at that venue...mannnn! It's gotta be a top 50 PJ show in my opinion. 6/22 was a great show as well but I think a bit outshined by the following night. Wish I had been there, it's the f'n gorge and they delivered the goods!

7/23/06 my first show ever. The reason my username has Severed Hand in it. A day I'll never forget.

The 06 shows were great, but the '05 show was on fire.   My favourite PJ show I've ever seen, it was amazing.   Opening acoustic(ish) set.  Set was full of lost dogs.   The weather was perfect at the '05 show (wasn't a nuclear furnace.. lol).

I moved to Edmonton a few months before the '06 show, and I still had the tickets.   Drove all the way from Edmonton to the Gorge for those shows.  All the way through Alberta, BC, Idaho, and West to the Gorge :)   Dirty Frank was worth all that.  Still can't believe they played it.

Its pretty cool.  It's book form with plastic pages.  I was always scared of scratching the CDs with my car player so I never touched the discs.

Interesting. Never really paid attention to the variations.

Retail version looks way better IMO. Discs sound amazing. Wish we got all of the vault's like them.

Its fun reading old threads with the weather reports.  Man 102 degrees is no joke LOL
  • ZodZod Posts: 9,941
I thought it was hotter than 102?  I thought it got Vegas hot, like 118 or something.   It was isaaaanely hot :)

We got there early to get a poster (right at doors) which I think kind of backfired, because baking in the sun for 3 hours waiting for the band to play, that sucks your energy.. lol

My thermometer was reading 116. Super fucking hot! But it was a great weekend, for sure. We took off during the day to cruise around in the car with the A/C on, and then went wine tasting for a while before heading back and jumping into the furnace.

Oh man, thanks for the trip down memory lane. '05 was my first show, and the two-night stand in '06 were my second and third. The '06 shows were devilishly hot, I think I recall something around 117-118 and HUMID. I remember watching the clouds gather behind the stage over the river during Severed Hand and thinking we may be in for a bit of thunder and lightning. Still my best set of concert memories, though! I hold out hope that they will return to the Gorge sometime soon. Like Eddie said, you drive for three fucking hours, you can call me!

I often wondering if they originally intended to do acoustic presets again, but opted not to because of the heat (playing 3+ hours in that heat would of probably killed the band).   There was no opening band so many of us assumed it was going to be like the '05 shows.....

I'm glad we had an Air Conditioned hotel waiting for us as Moses Lake after those shows :)

Ha, standing for 3+ hours two nights in a row just about killed me! Those shows are one of the reasons I usually avoid the Gorge in mid-summer. I am a delicate Seattleite, I cannot handle heat like that for long periods of time. But dear god, they were amazing. The version of Garden played on Night 2 is still my absolute favorite to this day and never fails to send chills down my spine.

It was probably a very easy decision to release these shows.  This is peak live PJ

Can I ask where you got a regular set of the Gorge. I have the original set. Actually the 6/22 download(which was my first) and a road trip later that summer was how we really got into this band. Still a favorite especially when the summer heat ramps up. I was aware  of the Gorge shows as a younger coworker was a fan. I didn't get to my first show until the U2/PJ show in Honolulu later that year but  I was about 300 miles due north of the Gorge at a lakefront, air conditioned B&B and could barely handle the heat. We've been summer visitors to the area for years and almost always had great weather but that was the hottest ever.  "Hot like a motherfucker" is how Ed described on the boot.
