May 16, 2000 was about 2 weeks before my HS graduation. Of course my buddy and I bailed on school, went to the mall and purchased the CD. Hadn't taken the plunge into 10C membership yet. Ended up running into and talking with one of the younger teachers from our school. Agreed that no one would mention skipping school. Ha.

Binaural was the first album I saw the release of in "real time", having become a Pearl Jam fan in the summer of 1998. Like blackngold, I was in my senior year of high school. Went to the record store during my spare and ended up being the first person to purchase it at the location.

Listening to it now. I think it's the last album I bought on the day of release, until Lightning Bolt in 2013. It took a few days, maybe a week, to grow on me- then I thought it was the best stuff they'd done up until that point. But then that wore off and now it sits at #6 behind the first five. It's a unique record. Light Years and NAIS are standout tracks, and insignificance all the way thru to Parting Ways might be the best 7 song stretch on any of their albums. 16 years old. Binaural is a teenager. Old enough to drive. Fuck me, I feel old.

The funny thing is that we don't feel old we just say that a lot of other people at PJ concerts are old.
    Never us.

Well I was 24 when they released Binaural and I'm now 40. I also used to be thin and could pretty much eat whatever I wanted and now I've been trying to lose weight for three years lol.

Sign of the times---guitar player in my band at the time brought over a Napster copy two weeks early and queued up Breakerfall.  I let myself listen to the intro and made him shut it off!

Sleight of Hand is one of their top 3 songs of the 21st century IMO (along with Man of the hour and Sirens)
