A Splendid Little War in Yemen

I'm very optimistic about the level of attention wars with Muslim nations that have been going on for 13 years are finally getting the attention it deserves. I was beginning to think myself and a few others on here only cared about the death and destruction brought on by wars.
    Finally!

Has the negligence/incompetence reached the point of Impeachment yet and will the Congress do the right thing when it's clearly called necessary? As in, country first?

Feel free to start one, two or even three. I believe there's a Syrian thread, Benghazi and/or Libya thread(s) and an Iraq thread.

I hate posting here, but the facts (not alternative) are these: Yes, the US has been involved in Yemen for a while now, including during President Obama's terms. He did not, however, start operations in Yemen. His CENTCOM team did, however, start surveillance for this particular operation. But they held off any offensive because it was deemed too risky at the time of his exit from the White House because in their expert opinion, more surveillance and intelligence-gathering would be necessary before they could lead a successful strike against this particular AQAP cell.

It's relevant that Obama is no longer Commander in Chief because his team advised him against a strike just a little more than two weeks ago whereas Trump's reportedly signed off on one. And no new surveillance or intelligence-gathering was implemented during this time.

Yes, I agreed that that the U.S. has been involved in operations there for a while. You'll get no argument from me.

And on a personal note, President Obama's drone-happy ways (to the point of joking about it when it came to imaginary suitors for his daughters) were deplorable, and reason No. 1 why I never voted for him.

Someone tipped the militants off. SEALs intercepted communications 5 miles from the target and continued anyway. Fault goes on the ground commander of the operation.

    Questions are:

When does it end? Who is held accountable when it goes south? How many killed? Is it necessary?

    https://www.boston.com/news/national-news/2017/02/02/questions-after-chain-of-miscues-in-u-s-raid-in-yemen

this was started by Obama ... the US has been involved in Yemen for a while now ...
Obama is no longer Commander in Chief.
not sure why that is relevant ...

And no new surveillance or intelligence-gathering was implemented during this time.
the fact is the US has bombed Yemen as well as launch drone attacks ... the bombings by Saudi forces are tied to the US as well ...

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/oct/15/us-bombed-yemen-middle-east-conflict
as Dankind said above... "Yes, the US has been involved in Yemen for a while now...."

Read the rest. Quit cherry picking.
based on his original comment - he seems to imply that obama has only called for intelligence or surveillance ... and that there were no strikes ordered when in fact there were ...

i'm not sure what you are referring to about cherry picking ... he didn't write a lot nor post a link so I can assure you I read everything he wrote ...

Trump can cancel the war in Yemen. Be a hero. Maybe win the Nobel.

the question is why the cuss is the US in Yemen!?? ... why is it that everywhere the US goes - al qaeda or ISIS thrive!? ... see Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Lybia ... and why is it that in these so called civil wars - the US always seems to be supporting the terrorist factions!??

Has the negligence/incompetence reached the point of Impeachment yet and will the Congress do the right thing when it's clearly called necessary? As in, country first?

Why would this operation call for impeachment? Obama used the SOF community often, were you as upset then?

Missiles have been fired out of Yemeni at US warships multiple times. I'm guessing the Pentagon is a little curious who is behind it and then lay the hurt stick on them.

Unfortunately these types of operations happen to every president. (Imagine all the stuff we don't know about?!) Yeah Trump is the commander in chief but I don't see how this can be his fault. When you are battling al qaeda and ISIS sometimes you need to pull the trigger and send these types of operations in motion to rid the world of these scumbags. It's a chance you take.
By the way Yemen has been going on for years.....

The U.S. military launched cruise missile strikes on Thursday to knock out three coastal radar sites in areas of Yemen controlled by Iran-aligned Houthi forces, retaliating after failed missile attacks this week on a U.S. Navy destroyer, U.S. officials said.

The strikes, authorized by President Barack Obama, represent Washington's first direct military action against suspected Houthi-controlled targets in Yemen's conflict.

so, this is a proxy war against iran? ... so, everyone is ok to give arms to al qaeda so they can fight a proxy war in iran ... all the while the poorest people in the middle east suffer? ... all the while "aid" keeps flowing to the saudis in the form of missles and bombs ...

war profiteering ... arms sales ...
