What headphones are you using?

Hey guys sorry if this question has already been asked, but what headphones do you think Pearl Jam sounds best through? I just got a set of Hifiman HE300s but they aren't quite what I wanted them to be so far. Any input is appreciated!

Not that this would have any bearing, but Lars is wearing them to track his drums in this video.

The ATH-M50x seems to be a popular choice all around, they sound crisp with rock? They were already high on my radar but knowing PJ sounds good through them might bump them to the top of the list

Everything from classical, jazz to Pearl Jam sound great in these cans. Worth every penny IMO.

Beyer-Dynamics DT 880 250 ohms edition. Beautiful, crisp, balanced sound, and the most spectacularly comfortable headphones I've ever used.

Sony MDR-7506 will be my next set of cans, I currently use Sennheiser HD280s.

Oooo!! The Sony's are classics. I almost bought those instead of the AT's.

Shure SRH-440 for me. I like that they don't over hype the low end like a lot of others in the same price range.

They sound good, are comfortable and are accurate enough for mixing duties in my studio.

Do you find these require a lot of power? I only have a small portable headphone amp and an onkyo receiver

Sometimes I find it a bit soft for my liking (say in a plane where there's a lot of ambient noise), but overall not a deal-breaker, especially with a headphone amp! They also come in 32 and 600 ohm varieties anyways. If you need more volume, go for the 32 ohm model. I can't imagine the 250 ohm edition plus a headphone amp would be an issue in the slightest.

I also use the MDR-7506's. I'm a musician with a drum room/small recording studio in my house and besides listening to music, these are my "go to's" for recording/mixing as well. I also used to work for an audiovisual production company, and all of the engineers/audio techs used these as well. :)

I am have used the Grado SR60 extensively, do you know how these compare? I like the SR60s a lot but the clarity is not where I'd like it. My Hifiman HE300s have really grown on me and are a very solid pair, always like to try new pairs though.

Nice. My wife just got me the Shure SE425s for my birthday. Haven't tried them yet, but will soon. The noise reduction for my many plane trips will make it much easier to fall asleep. And I'm shure the music will sound great too, lol.

heard those are pretty good i got my pair from a friend James...the noise reduction is brilliant and the sound coming from it is crispy gold...
  • I've gone through 3 sets this year alone. I have some old Sennheiser fold up ones, which were good but going to the gym i went Sennheiser bluetooth. lasted 4 months and could not return as i could not find reciept. or kept the original package. Then went to Dennon bluetooth and noise cancelling lasted 2 months. Took them back, used my old Sennheiser ones and now they turn up to max volume when i start to sweat!!!!

I know this is an old thread but the Bose QC35s are the best headphones I've ever had; and I've both owned and tried a lot of really good ones. Noise-cancelling and sound is so good, sometimes it gives me goosebumps, especially when I listen to bootlegs because it sounds like I'm in the middle of a show at a small theater/club. Then add the fact that it's wireless with a 20-hour battery life = MIND. BLOWN.
  • Koss ProDJ100. I think I got them for $60-65 from a Koss outlet. No noise features or Bluetooth and they do get warm after a while, but the sound for the price is exceptional. And all their products come with a lifetime warranty. Right phone started to go after a couple years. I brought them in and walked out with a brand new pair. No receipt required. They told me that even if my dog chewed them up that they'll replace them. Really can't recommend them highly enough.
