My dad's poem when he died... please play Release for me in Tampa and/or Jax
My name is John from Gainesville Rock City and I'm a long time listener/first time caller...
My dad passed last year from cancer. You may have saw me in Miami with my F' Cancer shirt on.
I used to listen to Release as just a great song, but when my dad passed, the song changed (along with many others). You see, my dad wasn't a big fan or anything, but when he passed, he gave us a poem called Release me. Here it is:
"When I am gone, release me. Let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many beautiful years. I gave to you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part. So bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on. So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say "Welcome Home."
I've been to the first two shows of the tour and it's been an amazing time. I only have two more shows until the Chicago shows. I've loved the setlist so far, I'd love to hear this one. Whether you open with it, close with it, it doesn't matter. During that moment, that song, I will be with my dad again even if it's just for a minute.
RIP dad. His name was Sheldon by the way.
