    Well, since you asked....

I work in health care and I have absolutely no patience for health care workers who behave in a rude, disrespectful, or belittling manner to our patients. The people we are dealing with are, pretty much by definition, experiencing a terrible time. They feel badly, might be in pain, might be grieving or anxious or hopeless about things. It really burns me when I see staff acting like caring for their patients is a burden or that their needs are tiresome. I get that people can be overworked and the best resources might not be available, but take it up with your manager, complain to your union, or vote in a different government - just DO NOT take it out on your patients. If you can't avoid this, get out of health care.

    Bless you for this.

The second time my husband's lung collapsed, he had to have surgery (catheter the first time it happened worked, though temporarily).

He was in SO MUCH PAIN. It hurt me to see him hurt like that, and be fucking helpless in the process.

At the hospital with him after, it was late at night, morphine not fully kicked in yet. The nurse overseeing him took such shit care of him in action and attitude, and when I called her on it, I was subjected to a litany of the trials of her life and job and hours.

Not proud of myself in retrospect and it was out of (my) character, but I went off on her.
    +1
If I was a slightly more emotional person I'd have been in jail for assault after the way the ER doctors treated us when my dad died.

And don't get me started on the nurses aids in the post surgery room in the hospital. I ended up having to put gloves on and do their job for them. When my mom got out of there she'd developed a rash/hives & a bed sore cuz they weren't taking care of her properly. God help me all the times the staff tells me I should go into nursing it's all I can do to keep a straight face.

Blessed by Jedi Hedo - I feel better already!

Most of the allied health professionals that I've worked with - physiotherapy, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, respiratory therapy, etc. - have been delightful people. Even the ones who aren't at the tip-top of competence are unfailingly chipper and polite. Unfortunately, the nursing profession is a mixed bag and where I see the worst cases of rudeness to patients. Some of the nurses I work with are open about the fact that they hate the job but are staying for the benefits until they can retire with a good pension.

People that speak over me after they have asked me a question and people that interrupt when I am already clearly speaking and not finished. So kinda the same thing  I guess.

My friend's roommate is one of those people that likes to hear himself speak. When someone else speaks he keeps talking, just increases volume. The result is that everyone ends up talking really loud, yelling without meaning to. I won't go over there if it's more than a couple people for this reason. I get a weird panic reaction & have to leave the room, I dunno why.
I also won't attempt to make any kind of point or engage in any kind of discussion cuz I hate getting interrupted. I've thrown shit at him to get him to shut up and let me speak. An ex of mine did the same thing so bad I would just give up on speaking cuz i couldn't even finish a sentence. Even now he catches himself & has to force himself to shut up & let me speak. It drives me nuts cuz it's so disrespectful.

dankind: Walk against the traffic on Court Street for a couple of blocks to Borough Hall, and take the 2,3 uptown to 34th Street/Penn Station. The Garden is right upstairs.

Tourist: Couldn't I just walk over to Smith Street and take the F from Bergen?

dankind: Sure. You could also go fuck yourself!

I'm in the same field and its the kind of work one MUST have patience and empathy. Now I had those traits many times over but I especially understood this last year when I was literally given a new foot. This would've been 13 days after the surgery and on multiple drugs for pain. While in the hospital all my nurses were responsive to my needs, some even flirted with me once they found out I was single lol.

The same goes out to people who work in pre school teaching. Something I did 5-10 years while working in nursing with the elderly (seems I worked at both ends of the spectrum and in Many ways they become the same). That field of work requires even more patience because your 3-5 year olds are impacted by the what one teaches them about the ways of this world. They're sponges and soak up how one interacts with them on a day to day basis.

people who don't have their money or card out ready to pay after waiting in line. we just waited 2 minutes and now you take out your cash or card? you;re a dick

women who insist on putting their change back in the purse at the counter in stores. move out of the way already

one-uppers - people who insist on following your story or comment with their own story or comment having to one-up you. a friends wife does this constantly. want to slug her after awhile

lateness - be on time fuckers. it's not that hard most of the time.

Just read this. Even if you did went off on her, as a nurse I would NEVER talk about my life story or anything to do with me even if I was not wrong. I'm solely there to take care of patients in the BEST possible way that I can. What I would say to you is, how can I make your husband feel better or that I'll do much better next time. Keep it simple and all about the patients in my care.

Same here. It is a MAJOR problem in Vancouver. Especially the slow walkers who are with their slow walking friends and they spread out across the entire sidewalk or corridor, leaving you no way by unless you ask them to move. It's SO annoying; I struggle with it every single day. :anguished:

Similiar to the person at the store who waits to pull their card out at the last moment or the women who put change away into their black hole of a purse I present drive through ATM or fast food drive through people. The ones who insist on sitting in front of the ATM or drive through window while they put the change away or their cards back. One lady went so far as to sit there writting in her checkbook. I'm sure she knew how much she was going to take out before hand so instead of writting it in while waiting fuck us we can wait. You can pull forward 10 feet so the next person can go but I guess that kind of courtesy is lost now a days.

Thats half the fun in Vegas. I play the 'who will hook up' game with my brother when we go. Here is how to play: Go to one of the Casino bars around 4am and you each put $50 on the table. You observe the bar and all the potential hook ups happening for minutes. You each pick 5 potential couples from the bar. If one of your 'couples' leaves together in the next 30 minutes you get 1 point. If they head to the bathroom together you get 3. Only other rule is no picking an obvious pairing where you know they already are together from observing them. Winner gets the others $50. Enjoy that the next time in Vegas.

You should go. Paid work in Vegas. As long as he (I'm being sexist and assuming he) isnt thinking any funny business of course. I rarely lose this game with my brother. You can see the 'I'm drunk and want to hook up with someone' looks on the ladies faces when they scan the bar. Focus on the ladies until they make eye contact with a guy, or girl of course. I hit on a couple of those hook ups as well. I'm going with him in September to see five finger death punch and we will play both Friday and Saturday nights. As two married guys it is an awesome way to end a great Vegas evening.
