See that's the funny part, it's not just him, it's ALL of them.

Seriously before saying that the pending legislation isn't out there, do some research.
    Boo!

    All of who?

Seriously, please enumerate which Constitutional rights you've lost and what "pending" legislation you're so ever so fearful of. You do own a gun, correct?

    Peace.

I really don't want to go and re-hash all of the same stuff again. It's been discussed before, I'm sure you know how to google.

However I will give the Cliff Notes, search on Connecticut and in my home state of Illinois there was legislation last year that would turn a law-abiding person into a felon by charging the person with a felony for EACH magazine owned that was larger than 10 rounds.

Any rational person can see how that is simply ridiculous.
Any rational person can see how not limiting magazine capacity is simply ridiculous.

  • in all fairness, I don't think pointing out these stories really helps the "limiting guns" argument. they were probably hunting rifles that weren't properly stored, and the owner should be charged. it's not like this was two kids playing with semi-automatics and riddling each other with 10 rounds.

Right but it's all part of our "gun culture" that the right wingers love to promote.

Chief Childress told the Daily Times that not even he and his officers have the authority to demand to see gun owners’ permits under the new law.

“This is an example of my concern with the new gun law,” he said, “that people will take the law into their own hands, which we will not tolerate.”

luckily they didn't shoot themselves. I wonder in a state like Florida that has a stand your ground law if this incident would have been different i.e. someone is shot dead.

It's crazy...we are really creating an environment where you can shoot someone and get away with it as long as there are no witnesses to refute your story. "He attacked me so I shot him" is hard to prosecute with no witnesses.

It's Embedded so Deeply into American Culture...Really it should be a Privilege rather then a Right to own a Gun.

depending on your definition of what a right is, gun ownership is not a right.

for me this is what a right is:
A right is universal—meaning: it applies to all men, not just to a few. There is no such thing as a "right" for one man, or a group of men, that is not possessed by all. This means there are no special "rights" unique to women or men, blacks or white, the elderly or the young, homosexuals or heterosexuals, the rich or the poor, doctors or patients or any other group.

It's sad that I wake up and read a story like this every morning that recaps all the shootings that too place the night before.. I can't believe this is the same city that I live in....it might as well be a different planet. What a mess.

Happens everywhere all the time, and you have to look hard to find it reported anymore because it's so common.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Good thing there was a good 11 year old with a gun to stop the bad 84 year old with a gun.
*It's not funny to joke about this. Especially when the detail are not known. I feel terrible for the people involved in this, and the trauma the kid is going to go through, or already has gone through...

They call successes in winter, when people are indoors, good police work.

They call failures in summer, when people are outdoors, the result of lax gun laws (even though Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country).

I say that the police should be walking the streets, all of the time, doing their jobs.

Yeah, they definitely get creative with their stats and numbers. They were raving about percent decreases in crime early in the year....after the winter we had in Chicago, of course crime would be down. Don't hear much about the stats and numbers the past few weeks.

Chicago may have strict gun laws, but the sentences for some of these gun crimes in Illinois are laughable. I don't have any specific examples, but there are so many stories out there about some gangbanger involved in a shooting right after getting out of jail and serving a minimal sentence for a gun crime.

A couple of my family members are CPD and they say the biggest issue is manpower. They just don't have enough cops to cover these problem areas.

That city is a mess, I love going there for some of the places, but I get out as quickly as possible.

It's strange, I've walked alone in some rough places in Europe without even really knowing where I was. I wouldn't dare walk through some parts of Chicago. My feelings have zero to do with guns, it is about situational awareness.

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/07/justice/chicago-shootings/
"There has to come a tipping point where this changes," Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday of the violence. "The illogical nature of what's happening here -- that government can intercede and prevent this from happening is overwhelming. And I refuse to think otherwise in a great country like America that we can continue to allow this to happen -- not just on a state, but on a federal level."

McCarthy, reciting the criminal histories of several of the suspects in this weekend's violence, noted gang members face tougher consequences for losing their guns from their gangs than from authorities.

"Possession of a loaded firearm -- it's not even considered a violent felony in the state of Illinois for sentencing purposes -- which is why you see the revolving door," he said.

And for minimum wage too. Don't forget that part.

Walk the beat? Get serious. You would need a cop on every street. If a crime was occurring 10 blocks away... we would have to have some pretty fast runners out there!

You are ridiculous with the expectations you place on the profession compared to what you think they are worth. You cannot expect a police force to be omnipresent unless you are willing to pay for more cops to be in more areas. You cannot expect to recruit the most appropriate people to enter the police profession when you pay them peanuts. And don't give me any of that they get paid plenty bullshit. We've been through this before and it has been established that the beat cops get paid shit.

At least if the profession got a little respect for the difficult job they do... they'd feel better with the 'pats on the back' from the fatsos with big mac sauce on their cheeks. You know... the guys that figure the cops are terrible, but tremble every time they hear a noise and have the cops on speed dial.

Actually we have been through their pay before and I illustrated that most police where I live make $85k and more with many making over $100k. I sent the link for proof to someone on the forum, but I'm not posting it because it's nobody's business where I live. I live near Chicago.

    You sent it to me.

I read it and reported back to you that the wages you just flaunted were to superintendents and other high ranking officers.

The lowly 'walk the beat' cops were making $45,000. You would make more... oh... driving a Loomis truck and you wouldn't have to risk your life. You could deliver newspapers and make close to that for gawds sakes.

    * I have nothing against Loomis drivers. A needed job in our society and I respect their efforts.

Lol, there isn't a full time cop in this city that makes 45k. My co-workers's wife is a secretary and she made 50k

I looked her up, she made 64k.
