Lesser know guitar greats.

We always hear about the guitar "gods"- Hendrix, Page, Clapton, SRV, McCready, etc- and for good reason. But what about some of the lesser know outstanding players? Some of my favorites:

Roger Miller (Mission of Burma)
Ry Cooder
Adrian Belew
Robert Fripp
David Lindley
Harvey Mandel (not the comedian)
Peter Green
Phil Manzanera
David Hidalgo

Who are some of your favorite lesser know outstanding guitarists?

Joe Bonamassa. Seen him like 10 times. Dude is awesome. Highly recommend seeing him, although his tix have gotten rather expensive. Met him a few times too. Guy is phenominal!

Some other great lesser known guitarists:

    Fred Frith
    James Blood Ulmer
    Larry Coryell
    Sharon Isbin

  • Robert Fripp is a great one. I will nominate a new young one...

Quinn Sullivan is Buddy Guy's 14 (maybe he's 15 now) yo protege and played with the big boys at the Crossroads Guitar Festival. He's what's next.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Rory Gallagher never received enough recognition IMHO.
I'm a big fan of Peter Green.
And I can't believe you brought up Harvey Mandel. I actually saw him live in 1975!

    Gallagher, for sure.

Yeah, love Peter Green! His album "The End of the Game" is a favorite- both the record and the album cover.

You know of Harvey and have seen him- excellent! I've seen HM a number of times. My favorite was in the late 80's at a little club, the Cotati Cabaret in Cotati, CA. It took Harvey a few number to warm up but once he got going man, the guy was on fire and his band was top notch. We kept cheering him back at the end of the show. He came out and said, "Oh, awwwwwright, one more," and we went nuts. Great guy.

^^^ His guitar playing what I've always liked best about Prince. At the end there- where the heck does that thing go?? It's like it just vanishes

Bloomfield- one of the best, gone too soon. Danny Whitten too which reminds me-
